Getting sick of blowing cheap servo gears!

Come on BRO... don't lie. You started a Facebook Fan site for those servos, got a servo mural tattoo on your back, and installed them in yer Jeep cuz you love them so much!

Ok, "swears by", and "suggested".. whatever! I know that you love you some quality servos, and have impeccable taste. But all I needed to hear was "these worked fine for me and have lasted" combined with the price... and I was sold.

So, wait... you guys who run the Castle BEC... are you using them with your Brushless veh's? or just yer Nitro? Linc said "ERevo", so that pretty much pinpoints it. I've seen a lot of BL conversion pix, and I rarely if ever have seen a BEC in the mix. If it's one of those, "Vast improvement" things, I'll get one cuz they are cheap. But if it's really not all that big of a deal, I'll pass.

If you were to purchase a high end servo, running a external BEC really wouldn't be nessasary, you'll have more than enough power and torque with the juice it would get via the ESC.

Of course, if you do run a external BEC you'll gain more power and speed due to using a full 6.0 volts or more if you choose. Crawlers would gain with this, nomal bashing you may or may not even notice ? Keeping the set up simple is usually best for most.

For a nitro vehicle if you wanted to run a 7.4v servo you can just use a 2s lipo receiver pack, since on a nitro you need a receiver pack anyway. On an electric you already have the main battery as a voltage source, so it makes the moist sense to use a BEC to step the voltage down to a level that servos can handle. Technically I guess you could use a 2s lipo receiver pack on an electric, but it really wouldn't make any sense to do so.

Many people are fine with just using a servo at the 5v that their internal BEC on the ESC provides, but if you want to run HV servos at 7.4v you'll need an external BEC. Another advantage is that external BECs are for the most part capable of handling more current, so you can feed these new HV high torque servos the current they want.

Gotcha. So then, for these nicer servos, it's best to then use a BEC? But for the cheapy Traxxas 2075's I had been using, it's not needed?

Yeah that's basically it. The one other main reason for using an external BEC would be if you want to run more cells than the ESC's internal BEC can handle (people used to do this to run 4s on the Mamba Max), but that's a separate issue from running one to get higher voltage for servos.

another vote for the 9100t. I have one in the e-revo, and a pair of 9100s in a e-lst. They toss both trucks around like a rag doll. Very fast, center perfect, have been very pleased.
