Unhappy T'bird 54 won't sync after FW update - 04.25.2010, 11:38 AM

I was gonna post this on RCGroups, but I thought I'd post it on Castle's favorite forum instead

I did the most recent firmware update on my TB54, there was a popup that said something to the effect of "this update is not reversible". A bit concerned, I decided to do it anyway. I am regretting it big time. My outrunner just shreiks, jumps a bit, runs a bit then back to shreiking. It appears the ESC can't decide which direction to fire. Thinking it might be the motor, I put in a small inrunner w/gearbox, same thing.
The 2 motors I tried are:

Ammo 24-33 2500 kv inrunner
Waypoint 3014-16 1388 kv outrunner

Both these motors have been used extensively with my 54, never a problem before. I am hugely disappointed and missed a perfect flying day yesterday.

What can/should I do, I am pretty sure the 54 is less than a year old.

Help Castle!

Have you gone into the esc settings afterwards to check they didnt get reset with the FW update?

I would have, but the only settings available on the TB are brake on/off, rotation direction, and cutoff voltage. Not exactly the plethora of options most of us are used to with their car escs, but it is a budget esc.

Oh right, didnt realise it was quite so basic like that. I wonder if it is possible somehow to undo the changes, even if its only at castle's end? Any software options that are older that you can flash to the esc?

I'd check the motor connections -- that's exactly what you would expect to see if there was a bad motor connection.

Also, you can force a reupdate of the firmware on the firmware tab, if you think there might have been an error on the update.

Hi Patrick, I would not have posted without first checking for any bearing binding, or wiring issues. I did another update, same result, and even tried a third motor to no avail. I am 1000% positive the update is to blame. The 54 has worked flawlessly since late summer-ish last year, and has not seen over 30A. It's being used in a 30 oz SuperCub.

I'm trying to locate the receipt, not having much luck. Do I need to contact the retailer for a record of receipt to do a return?

EDIT: was purchased from All E RC August 6, 2009, I can request a reprint if need be?
