I went rummage saleing today and I got a brand new D-link wireless card for $4. I hooked it up to my laptop and compared the speed to my desktop. The desktop is wired and the laptop is completey wireless.

laptop

Why is my wireless laptop so much faster than my desktop? Maybe processor speed plays into it?

Could be the time of day usually, or it could be some setting on the router thats throttling your desktops download/ upload speed- make sure the laptop is turned off when you test the PC and viceversa.

This is my work PC:

Interesting thing is that it is recommended a server in madchester ( not a typo... ) , where as my home PC is directed via Reading. Curious, think its because its done via a Sodeho proxy server ( company intranet bollocks, blocks all the good sites, and now the proxy browsers too ).

EDIT: Ah, Im on BT at home, but work is Cable & Wireless ISP. That makes sense...
