The straps really can't be trimmed much(you would be trimming the "sticky" part). An 11" strap should work for all but the beefiest packs(someone wishing for longer straps can request them, as we have 8", 10", 11", 12" and 16" straps available). We also sell the straps in pairs for those using their own solution but needing straps, or those unsure of what size they need. :)

I figured that out tonight. I ended up making some extensions using some double side velcro. Kind of pain to deal with, but it will get me by until I can get it all straightened out. BTW, solved the battery tray width issue by cutting one side of it off.
