motor shaft too short - 06.26.2010, 01:44 PM

is there anything on the market that makes a 5mm shaft on a motor longer? an extension maybe?

i have a motor that i wanna use and after it mounts to the motor mount, it's just too short for any pinion to grab. any solutions?

Impaktrc has Long Shank Pinions. Would that be an option for you?

i thought about those, but it's for a traditional 8ight mount. the collar of the pinion where the set screw places dosen't quite clear the inside part of the mount. it needs to be a smaller collar. that's kinda why i was thinking about an extension of some sort. almost like Mike's bore reducer. i may really have to hack up the mount to use it.

thanks for the idea though. it might be a last resort option to make the center hole of the mount bigger. then the tekno pinions would work.

no pics yet, it's not quite finished. it's a feigao 6L motor on a traditional losi 8ight motor mount. by the time i use Mikes front endbell protector and endbell clamp, i'm out of room.

Are you using both at the same time? Just use the clamp, and some electrical tape to cover the holes.

Any kind of shaft extension would have to be perfectly centered & a perfect slip fit, otherwise it would introduce wobble that would kill the front bearing in the motor.

thanks for the replies, much appreciated.

i'm just gonna get another one of Mike's mounts. Seems like he makes the best of the best stuff. there's no point in messing with perfection.
