Losi 8ight conversion ??? - 11.10.2010, 01:26 PM

I bought a 8ight that was converted with a tekno kit and then a almost complete converted losi 8T in pieces as a lot. The extra conversion was a Losi kit. I figured it would be a nice project to see if I could get this disassembled losi 8t back together with the used supplied Losi brushless kit.

So as I am getting her together I realize the center diff is shot...cases were stripped, and sun gear is stripped. So instead of paying almost the price to rebuild I buy another complete 8ight center RTR diff off ebay.

When I put the new diff in with the conversion I noticed there was some rubbing/dragging on the front stock 8ight plastic front diff mount as well on the chassis.

I thought I remember people talking about the beggining 8ight conversions not being perfect and something like this happening. So I did a few millimeters shaving on the chassis in the hole for the spur towards the front, and also a few millimeters off the front stock plastic diff carrier.

By doing this I had free spinning happiness. I proceeded with the conversion.

Then I mounted the top plate of the center diff. When I secured the 4 screws it cinched the diff...making it hard to spin again. Im wondering if maybe I have something incorrectly installed or maybe this is why the guys I bought it front went with a Tekno Kit.

I would ask him but I bought this lot off ebay a long while back.

Any thoughts??

Sorry for the book. I just wanted to give all information. I can take pics if it helps.

Pics always help lol.Do you have the plastic spacer between the chassis and diff mounts? Also the diff. gets flipped doing the e-conversion.Are you using the metal 45 tooth spur or plastic spur? "some guys did have to make the plastic gear a little thinner in early conversion kits"

I believe it is a earlier mount. And yes it is a plastic spur. I was wondering if this might be it as well. I remember people having similar problems with the early mounts. Frustrating...lol.

Desert - I can only assume that you are also using the factory manual to make sure you have all the correct parts. First you need to check that you have the shim in the right spot (shims one of the diff supports up due to a relief milled in the chassis).
Next, double and triple check to see if the diff assy is reversed or not. Then make sure your orientation of all parts are also reversed......I dont believe the Losi kit reversed the diff assy, but cant remember for certain.

It's probably something easy/minor that you may have overlooked.

Losi 8T 1.0, Savage Flux - XL style, LST XXL, Muggy, 3.3 E-Revo Conversion and sitting outside 425hp, 831 Tq Dodge Ram Turbo Diesel. It SMOKES
