Forget the Super Duty, it has a laggy reverse system that just doesn't work with crawlers, go with the venerable (and sadly discontinued) Super Rooster. Maxx motors
will work in a Clod, but are generally expensive and not torquey enough. For a cheap alternative,
these guys have great torque on even just 6 cells, and are only $3.75 a piece. If you wanted though, you could go with some Integy 55x1 comm lathe motors for $20 online, they'd be super torquey and wouldn't stall under heavy loads, and also slow the wheelspeed down to a managable 5mph.
As for the separate speed controls, you could, but it might get confusing. Several guys use it on
RC Crawler, and it definately allows you to wheel through tough sections better, but it's expensive and a bit complicated to drive.
