rock crawler need help please

Thinking about useing 2speed controls and 4 channel radio to have control over front and rear wheels.And was wondering would it be safe to hook both into reciever or would that cause a overload? Or thinking about useing e maxx speed control. With after market e maxx motors. Will e maxx motors work on super cloud buster? Thanks for your input.

yes, just be sure to use appropriate gearing. also, i would go for the novak superduty, i think thats what its called. its like a evx but has better specs.

Forget the Super Duty, it has a laggy reverse system that just doesn't work with crawlers, go with the venerable (and sadly discontinued) Super Rooster. Maxx motors will work in a Clod, but are generally expensive and not torquey enough. For a cheap alternative, these guys have great torque on even just 6 cells, and are only $3.75 a piece. If you wanted though, you could go with some Integy 55x1 comm lathe motors for $20 online, they'd be super torquey and wouldn't stall under heavy loads, and also slow the wheelspeed down to a managable 5mph.

As for the separate speed controls, you could, but it might get confusing. Several guys use it on RC Crawler, and it definately allows you to wheel through tough sections better, but it's expensive and a bit complicated to drive.

What are the advantages of the lathe motor dabid? I notice alot of guys run them. Do they have massive amount of torque and low kv? Are the low amp draw to for long run time?

We're talking brushed motors now, no need for kv talk.......but yes. They have extremely low amp draw, low rpm, and mass amounts of torque, 45 minute runtime is easy with them and cheapo GP3300 cells. The only disadvantage of a lathe motor is the low rpm makes for low wheelspeed, which sometimes you need to wiggle out of tight spots, but I've never really had that problem.

So why not run a 540 27t motor with extra low gearing on it. The gearing would have more torque and slow it down to.

A 27 would work, but the 55 works much better and pulls less amps. I run dual $3.75 motors in my 2.2 clod and they have enough torque to get me over the rocks and enough wheel spin to get me out of the mud. :D

I was thinking about useing 2 DuraTrax IntelliSpeed 16T Mild-Modified Reverse ESC speed controls, and 2 Integy Matrix Pro Lathe Motor 65T Single motors,also a Hobbico HydriMax 6.0V 2000mAh Flat 4/5A U Panasonic reciever battery. Going to use emaxx radio,2 hitec servos,with 333 ounces of tork,going to cut red wires on speed controls so I can use reciever battery to power servos.Main battery thinking about useing 2 Intellect 3600 8.4V 7 Cell Stick Pack .any feed back would be welcome. Thanks

The 65t's might be too slow though, 45's or 55's would be good. As it is, the 55's are about perfect for my driving, and yield at least 45 minutes of runtime. The Hitec's would be good, but might be overkill too, if you do use them you might want to splice the rx pack to the servos so they don't pull too much power from the system.
