Help needed - 10.16.2011, 02:15 AM

Hi Guys

I need some help with my G3R build. I have not touched this thing in ages and blew the dust off it to drag some Helis at the flying field. I was doing some routine maintance and when i pulled the motor off i noticed a couple of pieces of the wrapping that goes around the stator fall out. When i turn the motor shaft with my fingers there is very little resistance, and when i hook it back up to a speed controller it runs normally.

Have i cooked this motor??? OR spun it too hard
Do i need to send it in for repair???

Now if i send it in my choices are repair this motor or get another winding of motor. But seeing how this was a speed truck build i am unsure of what to do.

I am running a 1527 1Y on 12s. I have always checked my gearing and temps to make sure the thing never got too hot, the same goes for the speedy and batts.

Should i repair the 1Y and retire this as a full time speed truck and run it on 6s-8s or should i opt for a 1.5Y/2Y and run full time on 12s

Please chime in and give advice

I'd suggest you send it to Neumotors for a checkup. What's the Kv rating on this motor?
12s is a lot of voltage if the motor makes more than 1000 rpm.

The 1527 1Y has a kv of 1250, but in saying that, its kind of the point. If i had used a lower kv motor i would not have made the speed i wanted to get.

I think at this point in time i have two options

1) repair the 1Y and make the truck a killer racer/basher on 6s-8s, and only plug in 12s when i have a need for speed

OR

2) send it back and get them to make it a 1.5Y or 2Y and make it a dedicated 12s setup. But either way i will not have the top speed i

What would you guys do??

Haven't you said the motor is working normally?

Why do you want to send it in, then?

I'd suggest you send it in, and ask for the reason it's acting like there is no resistance from the rotor. Was the cause the huge voltage you ran the motor on? Or was it something else?

The 1527 1y is rated for 48v (60k rpm) - so you should be able to use it on 12s for speed runs. For regular driving, as you've said, 6s or 8s would be better.

Got an email back from Steve Neu saying the motor should be fine on 12s, and that as long as the motor is working properly everything should be ok. I will get a chance to test it under load when i get back from work.

I do speed runs wherever its a long straight quiet bit of road
