Mamba XL2 up in smoke - 07.08.2012, 07:27 AM

On its first run it lasted all of 5 minutes before letting out the magic smoke.
Not happy at all. It looks like some of the fets have blown. Are they meant to be like that, with that metal plate only slightly covering them?

Kinda dreading waiting decades for Castle support to reply :(

Checked the log and it peaked at 4500w, ripple voltage was all fine (using a cap pack and 5000mah 45-90c packs, 8mm bullet connectors.

Hmmm looks like some of the FET's went to heaven...

Did your XL2 had the protective foam installed ?

See here Castle Service Advisory

Quote:
Look for a red paint dot on the bottom of the plastic housing between the red and black power wires.

If there is a red dot, your control board is secured properly and no further action is required.

If there is no red dot, proceed to next step.
Could be the controler board... just a guess

kind regards

Mirko

Brushless motors have to be green ....

There was no such foam on my ESC.

As for this red dot, where exactly should it be?
And if it is/isn't there, what does it mean?

edit: I see the advisory and I can confirm there is no dot on the casing.

Mamba XL2 arrived yesterday, thanks so much Patrick. This unit is a bit different to my old one. It has the foam installed, and it is all coated in some shiny coating.

Impressive postage, 4 days to arrive from America!
