Man I must be right on track with my research, haha. The 1717 is a high interest for me simply just to keep temps down. From what I understand, a larger motor such as the 1717 is capable of running considerably cooler while producing the same amount of power as the smaller motors?

My only concern is that its diameter would limit my gearing dramatically? Is this true?

Looking great. Nice score with the 1520. Castle is actually spot on, when calling this motor the bad boy for monstertrucks. Excellent motor, and they should make them again.

This is my first big brushless motor, so I'm still just amazed by it. haha Those neodymium magnets are crazy strong...I just can't get over how hard it is to turn the armature by hand

Got me a spur finally, and have some RCM Mod 0.8 pinions ordered!



(Onclebens front center dogbone on its way, and another set of 14-17mm hex adapters)

Only parts I need to get this beast running are:

-knuckle bearings (for 8mm axles)
-Mamba Monster 2

Yeah from the picture you're right, it looks like a Mod 1, but I can assure you its a Mod 0.8

Should I go with the new Mamba Monster 2...or the Mamba XL2? Not because I think I could run 8s on this motor, but just because the XL2 can handle more juice, therefore running it on less than its maximum capability, would maybe make it a more efficient setup?? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here.

If I could afford to go XL2 I would absolutely! I love the MM2 but the Xl is amazing. Data logging aluminum heat sink case!

See since I'm starting with nothing, I want to go in the best direction I can from the start.

Given that it looks like it will cost me about $156 to go MM2, and about $163 to go XL2...I couldn't see a reason not to go for the XL2...which is why I had to ask if I was missing something. But after looking at the prices, what's an extra $7 when you're already spending $150+ anyways (not to mention the capability of an extra 2s power is there if I ever have an application for it)?

Looks like I will be going XL2
