Castle link not working. - 12.12.2014, 05:44 PM

So I have a castle link, 3 of them actually. I also have a field link. No problems using the field link with the castle link software. Everything works fine.

The castle link chips don't work at all for me. As soon as I plug them in the red light illuminates dimly, and I get the tone from the computer that means "you've plugged a device in". And then the red light flashes brighter, and the tone plays again, and then the red light flashes, and the tone plays again, continue forever.

Castle link software does not recognize that anything has been connected. If I go to connected devices on my laptop you can see something flash in the bottom, but not long enough to see anything it says. The connection resets about 2 times a second.

This happens with all 3 of the castle links. This DOES NOT happen on my work laptop, they all work fine.

I have tried 3 different USB cables, I have tried every USB port. This is a newer laptop running windows 8.1. Again, the field link works fine using the castle link software. The only issue is with the small castle link chips.

Anyone else run into something similar? I feel it has to be something driver related in my computer. I've called castle support twice, both times I've simply been told it's something with my computer and they can't help me. There are "no drivers" he said. I have the latest Castle Link software installed. I have tried unstalling and reinstalling many times using many different compatibility modes. I have also deleted everything castle related I could find and re-downloaded from scratch to try and start fresh.

Very odd. The Castle Link and Field Link both use the same driver -- its a HID (Human Interface Device) driver, and is built-in in Windows.

I use my Windows 8.1 Laptop (A Sony) all the time with Castle Links and have never had an issue.

It sounds like a very odd problem -- and might be related to that particular laptop hardware.

Can you tell me what make/model the laptop is? We can see if we can find one to try it.

Thank you!

Patrick

Thanks Patrick. I also find it very odd. It must be something weird with this particular laptop.

It is an Asus N56V, i7-3610QM CPU, Geforce GT 630M graphics card, 6GB RAM, running 64 bit OS.

Laptop is just hitting 2 years old now.

When I installed 8.1 on my desktop the USB slots didnt work for data transfer natively though my mouse and keyboard worked, I had to install the generic USB driver to get castlelink and my card reader to work. For some reason it was included in windows but not installed, it flashed up a prompt telling me it was missing which went to the taskbar, I clicked the probem icon in the taskbar and told it I wanted it installing, very simple.

Everything works in my USB ports except the Castle Link chips. Nothing pops up or asks to be installed. Just constant beeping.
