Where was the UBEC? I understand where you have it soldered now, its just that they way you said it, it sounded like you had it soldered to the + and - on the Deans on the battery packs, not the Deans on the battery side of the ESC. Maybe the fact that the battery grounded out on the chassis shorted the UBEC...Then again, if there was a slice or rip in the heat shrink, it would shrink up and look like it hot really hot in one area...
