All the Optidrive does is interrupt the signal going to the shifting servo if it sees the speed is geater than 0mph. That's it.

There is a forward-only kit which removes all unnecessary gears, and gives you parts to cover the Optidrive sensor and shift fork shaft. This makes the tranny simpler, lighter, and stronger (one of the replacement gears is wider).

You don't want to use the stock reverse system with BL as the reverse gears will shred in no time. I don't know how many people over at the Traxxas forums have wrecked their reverse gears. Some of it must be the fact that the Optidrive is not operating quite right and allows the shift when still moving, some the fact that the reverse is a bit weak. If it can't hold up to Nitro, there is no way it will handle BL power!
