I'm running a 7xl and a mm esc on 4s li-po .. no probs here, with a fan on the esc temps are around 98-100 deg. the motor runs around 140's degrees. seems like a good set-up.

crazyjr, in comparison to what phildogg got, what temps do you get on your MM/9XL?? (if you run 4S, that is. Not sure if you still run Ni)

So far i have been hard on it trying to get it to heat up(stop and go, lots of brakes, running on blacktop to strain it) I haven't got it over 139* the 9xl is running about 120 in the same circumstances. This is with a set of 8000mah maxamps lipo's ( new 20c type) and it rips, literally, I tore up the rear diff trying to make it sweat. So i think it will make a good racing setup for mid to short tracks, going to try taller gearing to get some speed

Work because i gotta, play because i wanna

People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

Hmmmmmm. I wonder if it would take 22/66 without overheating? I'm thinking tho if you are running 140 on the motor, maybe not. Looks like your speed is around 30+ mph.

Well now I gotta rethink this. Not sure if I want do drop all that money for slightly better than stock top speed. I was planning on running 22/66 with 14 cells to get into 40 mph territory. The motor seems perfectly comfortable in your setup, but I think what I have in mind may be pushing it too hard.

I wouls say the mm esc and maybe a 8xl with the higher gearing might would be better for you.. as they would be more capable of pulling the higher gear.. I'm going to try a 20/66 before long just to see the temps.might be close to stock speed but it sure is alot more fun.. 20mph rolling wheelie maybe faster.. anyway I could use more speed but its fun like it is a ton of torque.

I just wonder way is the 8L getting so hot and the 7XL is not?
Is it because its more power in the Xl motors?
I have the 8L now with 4s, heat sink on motor and esc.
the gearing i use is 51/18 and 51/16 and the motor is getting hot, vould it be cooler with 7XL:032:
Sorry the of topic

For one thing, the 8L kv=2765, while the 7XL kv=2145. For another, the XL can is physically longer, which helps spread and dissipate the heat...
