The "3A Ultra BEC Board -exactly same Bec as in ebay link $12" looks like the only real choice. The other 2 are Max Input V: 12V ( 3 cells Lipo or 10 Cell). The other one has Max Input V: 35V (8 cells Lipo or 24 Cell Ni-Mh cells)

I'm thinking I'll order 2 of these since they are so cheap.

Back on topic, I have UBECs from rcmonster, truerc, and an overseas place I can't remember.... the truerc ones were only like 12 bucks or so and work fine.

How much current does a UBEC need to supply for a hi-torque servo (steering) and a Mamba Max ESC?

Not many servos list current draw. The Mamba Max manual does not list a requirement either.

Mike sent me a BEC from Dimension Engineering and its rated for 1.25A Continuous or 1.5A 60-second peak.

Acceptable or not????

I have this information on my calculations page (in BEC & Wiring):

I hooked up a Hitec HS-5945MG steering servo (180oz-in torque and 0.13 sec speed at 6v) to a Spektrum DX3 receiver and measured the current at 6v under typical use:

• The Spektrum Receiver uses 0.06A by itself with no servo attached.
• The servo uses 0.014A when idle (not moving and no load).
• Under typical steering conditions, the receiver and servo together drew peaks of 2.4A with an average of 0.6A.

It does.

I have a Futaba 3-Ch receiver. Don't recall the model number but receivers don't draw much current by themselves. I have a 5945MG and a Mamba Max ESC. I think the BEC Mike sent me has too little current capacity. This one has half that of the UBEC. I give Mike a call.

It might work. The peaks were at 2.4A, but the average was at 0.6A. If you use a capacitor on the UBEC, it will really help absorb some of those current transients. A value from 1,000uF to 4,700uF should do nicely. The majority of the current draw is when steering under heavy load. To do this, I had the truck sitting motionless and then manually held the tires somewhat firmly.

The MM doesn't need a UBEC because it's powered by the battery it's plugged into. :)

As for the 1.25A cont 1.5A peak, I don't think that's enough. If the servo he described was drawing 2A+, then you are going to see slower/weaker response from that servo. IMHO, I'd look for something with more oooooomph.
