Zwolle, main city of Overijssel.

sometimes a car is needed. our train system sucks bigtime. Check your sources.. 1 hour delay is rather common. (IF they drive at all, due to strikes) I don't know where you heard that our trainsystem is flawless.. it was, (till 1995) untill the government kind of sold it.

About the high prices for cars/fuel;

The Netherlands has got the highest number of 'company cars'; it's not they don't want people driving; it is that they know most of the people need to drive and do pay any money to keep driving.

But you are not in Denmark Serum. I know the train systems, I have used them frequently, never once did I run into a problem, and I have never had one late. I went across the entire country swapping trains and never had an issue. I have heard the trains in the Netherlands arent as good, I dunno. I am sure you know Denmark has the free citibikes so people dont even have to buy a bike, they are a very "green" country and dont want vehices polution. I cant speak for Zwolle. Denmark adds a "grøn ejerafgift" (environmental) tax on top of the other taxes including VAT. After the fees you pay 100% when its all said and done. A drivers liscense is expensive as well. They promote public transit, and bicycles....they severely tax motor vehicles.....
