There is a weak link in MGM 16024 controller - capacitors, while controller itself rated for high current and high voltage, capacitors installed on 24V version have much higher internal resistance then the one with 16V version. So, what that have to do with smoke?, right, well capacitors play important role in suppressing high voltage spikes when FET's switching back and force and absorb punishment when you hit brakes. Capacitors with higher resistance work less efficient (generate more heat, by becoming warm/hot) thus allowing high voltages to pass to control electronics and if one of these spikes trigger wrong phase then you will get smoke. Temperature also degraded capacitor performance, so the rule is simple reduce the current as low as possible and if use low number of cells use lower voltage version.

I will say if you rate controller for power the you should be fine. Like 160A at 16V = 2560W, then at 24V you shouldn't draw more then 2560W / 24V = 106.6A.

And to be safe I won't draw 160A from 16V version either, maybe 120A, which corresponds to 1920W and to 80A at 24V.

Do I get this stupid problem with 16024 if I use only 20XL06 motor and 4s or 5s lipo ? I dont want get this problem and waiting for same reason 6 months for repairing only... Do I buy this 16024 controller or not? Is 16016 more safety and more smart controller ?

(sorry my bad english:010: )
