Getting back into the hobby, need some help... -
03.06.2007, 07:51 PM
A few years ago a father son bonding thing, we bought some rc's. He got the t-maxx and i bought the e-maxx, i remember the nitro being somewhat of a hassle for him so he sold it and bought a evader ST or something. Soon after we ended up having to move, so we packed all our rc stuff up and never really got it back out.
Anyway to get to the point. Before i packed everything up i purchased a Lehner 1920 BL motor not sure of the turns, and what seems to be a BK 1870 mirco/bec controller. I had it a few days but never got it running.
I may be getting back into the hobby, just to mess around with on weekends and such. I was wondering if anyone here wouldn't mind helping me get everything going again, or would just be to much of a hassle? Should i just sell the thing? Is there still a market for them? I would rather get it running though, so anyone who can help i would appreciate it. if anyone needs more info on my setup or something in particular lmk. thanks again

Welcome to the fourm. I have not run a BK controller but plenty of guys here have, and I'm sure they can help.
You never had it running at all? Still have any instructions or anything?
Tell us what battery and vehicle you have in mind too...

I used to run a 1895 Micro controller, along with a 1920/8 Bl motor.....the motor should be ok, and so should the controller...you just need to watch your gearing....say around 13t pionion or 14 t pinion with a 66t spur....if the batts are NIMH...then run 14-16 cells and you should be fine....also a fan over the controller can't hurt either...one more thing...if you goto "how to program 9920 controller" on the forums...the instructions are the same for the other controllers as well....also if you are going to use over 12 cells, you either need to pull the black bec plug off from under the shrinkwrap on bottom of controller or just remove the red wire from the servo lead...also a UBEC will help to...

Welcome to the forums!
That controller is good for 70A and 18 NiMH cells. It is good for 2 pole motors only and should run your LMT just fine.
That motor is a very nice one, but a little small for an emaxx if that is what you are planning to use it in. It would be more suitable in a lighter stadium truck or vehicle around 3-4lbs. The amount of voltage you can use depends on the turns on the motor.

Thanks for the replies.
Sorry about any misconceptions before, i was running late and had to head to work soon.
yes, I had intended on using it in the emaxx. I remember talking to them on the phone saying it would be fine in it, who knows. Should i just put the titans back in?
As far as gearing goes, im not sure what it is at right now. would have to look into that. The batteries i have a 6 cell matched nimh, but they have been stored for years, will they work?
and this ubec, is that like a battery pack for the rx?
When i had it hooked up before, (when i first got it) i remember it just spazing out randomly, only stuttering back and forth. I was lazy with the wire work so im sure that played into it as well not having this ubec thing...
This truck will mainly be used for bashing, there's an open field not far from my house where some kids built up jumps for their bikes. I'm not looking for insane speed which could be why i got the 1920 in the first place, just something faster than stock than was fun to play around with.
Also, (sorry for so many Q's) what the story behind the emaxx 3.3 or something, wide max? I'm just curious because my truck has the extended proline suspension arms with ue towers and shocks(their older 1/8th scale ones i suppose) and i was wonder if this was any wider or if its the same.
if they is any typos/misspells i apologize but i just got home from work and am ready for bed. ill check this thread tomorrow, thanks again

Hi! welcome back to the hobby!
Well, the 1920 could push an e-maxx, but it doesn't do brushless any justice. it's quite a task for the motor, and it pretty much depends on the number of winds it has. the controller is cosidered a high-end LMT controller, but the 70A are not much for an MT.
You can look up the number of winds on the back of the motor. (there is a number stamped on it)

Is this a 1920 in an E-Maxx? I've heard of 1930's in an E, but never a 1920.
I though 1920 was reserved for touring cars and smaller 1/10 scales?
Bah...just saw Serum said that...
This should be a great system for a 1/10 stadium, like a Rustler, but its a bit lacking for an E-Maxx. You need a 1940 :)

It depends on the KV and desired speed BP! A 1930 does 85 km/h on 4S, with wheelies. So the power is there. Don't worry.. :)

could someone explain the # of turns for me? ei what does a lower turn mean vs a higher turn motor.
im somewhat dissapointed, feels like i got ripped off lol. I called before i bought it and they said it would work fine, oh well.
I may just sell it and put the titans in..
or sell the whole thing and use the motor in something else, what would you recommend? I think i would like to get a buggy of somesort, those look fun.

It represents the rpm the motor makes per volt.
First thing we need to know about this motor is what number of turns it has.

a 1920 can be run in a Emaxx....I ran one in mine for over 4 yrs......at the time I got into BL, it was considered a mild setup for a mt.....it did well, but for it to do any good I needed to run between 12-16 cells...and it did do good.....Troy can attest to it, we ran our trucks together and then at the bash.....it did pretty well....but after a little over 5 yrs of use...it finally toasted.....so it is possible, cause I ran one......with zero issues

Yes, I can attest to it. he ran the 1920/8, and to be honest, his old truck was a tank!!!!!!!!!!! But it ran pretty good IMO. It did crazy wheelie's too. I think my 10xl was still faster though!!!!!!!! LOL

Okay, that 10 turn sounds like a healthy candidate for 12 cells or 4S of lipo. but i think you might want to upgrade your controller if you do.

Mike said that a 1930/10 would work decent in a maxx on 4s or 12-14 cells. on 12 cells though, he thought that gearing up may be in order.
Long time no chat Rene!
