Changing oil in LSP diffs - 03.29.2007, 09:50 PM

I have a question for anyone with a LSP, do you really have to take apart the whole truck to get to the front and rear diffs? Because I just did. Also, is there a better way to clean out the old oil than wd-40?

You can remove the diff by simply removing about 10 screws...If I remember correctly, you only have to remove the 2 front in the bottom of the case, the 2 lower on the shock tower, the sway bar, and bumper. Maybe I'm forgetting a couple, but you don't have to take the whole thing apart.

I actually took the front and rear assemblies off the truck, i figured it would be easier to manipulate them. 12 for the front and 11 for the back (including the ones that hold it to the chassis). It wasn't that bad, but I guess the LSP has been around for a while and the design is not as user friendly as the newer truggies?
What are brushless guys running in the center diff? I figure I would run 7K in the front and 5K out back like on a nitro setup, and I planned on 50K for the center to reduce the ballooning of the fronts under acceleration. Is this too thick for the center diff?

No, it is rather "user friendly", you just have to get use to it. Its not hard to work on at all...

i take the little gears out the cups, then hose them down with brake parts cleaner.
then take the outdrive out the cup, and give the cup a good flush with the cleaner aswell. i havent noticed that the plastics from the cups are affected by the cleaner.

Use CRC's electric cleaner. That should make your greasy parts dry and clean.
