Well I think I may have figured it out. While perusing the RC-Monster store I noticed several of the BK controllers state that they have a 42000 RpM limit with two pole motors, like the LMT. Then I did a little math:

42000 RpM / 5000 RpM/V = 8.4 V

So at 8.4 V the LMT would have already reached the BK's RpM limit. Now more math:

8.4 V / 11.1 V = 0.7567

0.7567 X 100 % = 75.67 %

So at a tad over 3/4 throttle, which happens to be exactly when this problem occurs, the LMT reaches the BK's RpM limit. What's funny is that if I push by to full throttle it runs fine. So the BK controllers can handle more RpM than they say but they'll blow up your gearbox if you try to get there!
