Yes, before I started the business, I was a detailer at Pattison Toyota. When I quit I lost all my benefits. I got a loss of work plan through my bank actually, plus I have an ICBC garage policy, 2 million liability (in case someone slips in my soap or water) theft etc...

I have been involved in a civil suit before and just barely got out of it, thanks to a friend finding a small piece of paper a year after the fact and it was a 4 million lawsuit... it's not worth taking chances. my insurance is not cheap but a necessary evil in this world with so many people that try to claim for nothing...

I can't look at that pic.... breakfast won't stay down if I do...

Once again DrKnow sorry to hear about, and now SEE your pain

. Cool photos. It could have been much much worse. The best thing to hear is that you are approaching this from a positive perspective

. Too many people go into some sort of depression and spiral downward in the aftermath of such a disaster

. Like I have said in other posts life marches on no matter what we do. So keep your chin up and stay onboard the life train. Even through all of our suffering we still have to manage forward motion and happy days WILL still find their way into our path. We can tell you are a good man and that will always be followed by good things. Best wishes to you and your family through all of this

Your engineering ideas sound pretty cool. At least you are finding ways to remain creative during your recovery. I am just about to update my life changing events thread as well. I am back home in Belgium and ready to move on with our lives parenting my three small children. Good luck to you man and keep your spirits up.

Some people are just unreal in their greed, I'm constantly amazed ( and feel the same about them as when you see the pic's of my hand, LOL :)

Man, what happened to you is like my worst nightmare. Just this past week alone I logged at least 6 hours on my scroll saw, I'm glad that's done for after seeing your hand!

I really hope your recovery goes well. We're all rooting for you.

Anyway, regards the BL motor idea, I believe there is a company producing AC induction motors that dont use permanent magnets, but at the moment they havent made anything small enough or suitable for RC use.

Im interested in the new engine design idea- if that works out you wont have to worry about working much I imagine

I know, I know, Im an evil bar-steward. I wish you a speedy and full recovery man, I would hate to loose any use of my hands, and someone who relies on them for work (like you do) would miss them even more. Get well soon.

Wow, that saw stop thing is pretty impressive. It's $69-89 for a replacement cartridge each time the safety mechanism is used, which I guess is cheaper and easier to buy than new fingers.
One of our woodwork teachers in high school was about 60 and had been doing that sort of work for probably 40 years, but he put one of his fingers in a table saw at school one day, so anybody can have simple mistakes like that which turn out bad.

Got off way lucky, a moment of not looking and bang, it's done...

MetalMan, what were you doing on the scroll saw for 6 hours??? (building something cool out of aluminum I hope...)

Suicideniel, I've seen some of the stuff about AC brushless motors, but it does look far off for it to go RC...

Dang Luatch, you've looked into the low KV motors!!! What do people use to spin those motors now? Are there already esc's that will do over 40v?
P.S. did you ever try a TCS cooling system? I was looking at some old posts and saw you had interest at one point. I'm thinking about doing a stage 2 mod to my MM with a liquid cooler sandwitched between the boards (pressed for room in a 1/10 buggy I'm running, very little air flow without perferating the body)

The most lipos I've heard or seen was only 15S. The lower Kv motor will produce more torque than the higher Kv ones. I forgot to mention the Neu 22xx that might fit the bill as well. I will be putting together some form of liquid and Peltier cooling system. I already found a few manufacturers of mini water pumps. I've also spoke with a couple manufacturers of Peltier devices that can custom make them to fit around non finned motors. All I need to do now is find a source for the radiator (Water cooled heatsinks) for the ESC, motor and the whole cooling system. I'm still trying to figure out the most reliable way to go about doing it.

Yep, 6061-T6 1/8" and 1/4" aluminum, to be exact. It's a chassis and motor/spur gear mount (direct drive, no tranny) for my rock crawler.

Some of you guys have had been roughed up pretty bad, it sounds like! Somehow I always manage to only come out with scrapes and minor cuts. I mean, today I went skiing and did my first double diamond run ever (6 times total) and even as the snow became slush from the 60 deg. weather I was lucky enough to not get hurt. Same thing when my buddy and I tried out some lip-jumps on diamond runs, one time I tried to get too much air, and fell without injury (despite BREAKING a buckle from the ski boot!). Some might call it skill, I simply call it luck!

Can you post a few links for the pumps you've found? I see the TCS pump but have had no luck reaching them for more info. I'd like a cost effective alternitive to the TCS pump.

I will search my e-mails to get the data sheets of them. It might take a day or two, because I contacted the manufacturers a long time ago. I usually keep my company's e-mails organised, but I have no clue where I put the e-mails I got from them

Wow, best of luck with the recovery. I burned my hands on a fixed gill pit at a park when I was young, took almost all of the skin off both palms. Luckily I was hit by a car the year later and have no memory of my chilhood (8yrs and younger). I have very little hot/cold sensation in my hands, but have devoloped much stronger tactile sesation to make up for it. That is handy as I do auto paint and body work and it is very handy (pun?) to be able to feel the surface for imperfections.

I really hope that you get better and regain most if not all use of those fingers!

you keep me smiling lincpimp :), damn though burn hands, hit by car, monkey removed... I'm feeling bad for YOU now :) You rewound a motor, did you read the idea about a brushed/brushless hybrid? think it would work?

Luatch, I have also looked into those pumps, the tube style one looks too big for RC (65mm long) and the chinamicropump does not sell straight to the consumer... Looks like TCS is stil the best bet. Just no response and expensive for what it is ($68 plus shipping, if that is even current info).
