Went for a test... had just turned it on after tripple checking everything... it was sitting on my lap with the Batt. pluged in and the switch OFF..... Went up in smoke in my lap..... was set to brushless, 4 cell, all low values, ... did the claibration and I'm experenced... So Mon. I send it next day with hopes of getting it back for the end of the month! I have Tekin in two other cars. I love there product and Tekin has great customer service.. ! I have no dought they will come through for me! It's my Birthday weekend and it's for the Jconceps weekend here in Coral Springs Florida!

I used to go to the track in Coral Springs when I used to live there and I also went a lot on the track in West Boca.

Maybe it's just one of those units that might have a faulty components somewhere.

Now for Tekin, why have a brushed setting on the RX8? Keep it brushless only. On the R1/RS that setting would be good since it's small and if there's anyone out there still running brushed in a race they can use it and later upgrade to a brushless, but it doesn't make sense in the RX8.

I say, "Why not?". All that is required is a tweak to firmware, so there aren't any extra components needed. And it creates yet another selling point (even though it may never be used). I'm sure some of it is marketing and some is just offering features comparable to the competition. Might be useful for special projects where you want to hook up several medium-power brushed motors to one ESC...

Tekin made a racing system for 8th scale brushless racing and one that brought back a 4 pole sensored motor which is already a selling point. As for marketing, they would be better by stating a higher AMP rating like many do, but Tekin is better then those other guys, so the brushed setting on the RX8 does nothing for the product. The R1/RS Pro could pretty well handle those several medium-power brushed motors if a project needs it. I see more and more people just using brushless and don't get why a brushed setting in a brushless ESC is needed. Tekin already has brushed ESC on the market. Now I don't know how much space on the software a brushed mode takes, but it could be space for other option that could improve on the brushless side.

I doubt that brushed mode takes up any appreciable room in the firmware though. And if they want to add more features, I would think that with todays flash memory capacity/price, that wouldn't be an issue.

I hear ya though. I doubt it makes any different for the final sale. I still think it's just a matter of offering similar capabilities as the competition. Probably never will be a deal-breaker if it wasn't included, but looks better on a spec sheet when comparing to other manufacturers.

I personally like the brushed mode feature, but I see your point. I tried a dewalt drill motor ($30 why not) in my erevo when the titans smoked. If it wasn't for me changing my mind all the time I may have only bought an esc instead of the esc/motor combo. I'd still like to try a dual drill motor setup on the 5s packs I have now but I don't know what the motors will draw and if there's an esc that can handle it.

The brushed mode takes up little to no space in the firmware. The reason why it's there is because someone might want an esc that can do 6s on brushed motors. I've got an Rx8 in my Emaxx running dual brushed motors, because I can.

The software is there to prevent the wrong motor type being chosen and then operated.

I use brushed mode and 5s on my MMM to power my expermental electric scooter than I found for a dollar at Good Will, so don't say people don't use it!

If the R1, RS and RX8 can be used with a brushed and brushless why have a line of brushed only ESCs? I would live to see how many people will use a brushed motor with 6S lipos and race it successfully. A lot of people have gotten tired on messing with a brushed motor and I don't see the brushed technology getting any better, so why make a brushless ESC run it specially when the company already has brushed only ESC.

Size and cost. The FX line is near half the size of the R1 or RS. We make purpose built products for certain applications. Any brushless controller has the ability to run brushed should the manufacturer choose to add the software.

Happy Bday!

We try to offer the best support possible. The thanks should really go to Ty in support though. Without him it would not be at such a high level of customer satisfaction.

Exactly!

My FX is currently in my RC18MT, because my indoor track only allows stock motors... And it has way more punch and speed than the stock ESC ever had.
Having the LiPo cut off is really nice, as well!

When I get my RS-Pro setup, the brushed mode will be useful, as my TC races in 13.5 BL and 27T brushed GT class.

All brushless ESC's should have the option for brushed motors! Not only is it really convenient, but brushless ESC's also have MASSIVE power for brushed mode!

burned up the RX8 just this last Sunday. Plugged in the battery, turned on the switch and heard a popping sound. Crap. That can't be good.

The RX8 still turns on, but now there's no chiming from the the motor and it doesn't move the motor at all.

I know it's not the motor. I took out my R1-Pro and connected it, and we got power. Plenty of it too, it seems. At least I know the motor is still good.

So...rather than fiddle with it, I'll be boxing it up and sending it off to Tekin. Just thought I'd report that. :)
