So, I guess we have determined how warm the packs should be for pre-heating, but how warm should they be during the run? I am just wondering how cold is TOO cold? Now that I have the esc waterproofed I want to run this thing in the snow but I guess -20 is a bit cold for the batts.

Also, I saw somewhere that hardcases really do nothing to insulate the lipos and actually hurt the insulation more than anything? I am not going to run hardcase next time just because I hate not being able to keep an eye on the batts.

Ok I had too look it up, -20C is -4F. And I wouldn't want to be out playing in those temps for very long either.. but yeah it's either deal with it or not play.

I wonder if someone could come up with a cheap DIY self-powered electric blanket for winter lipo running lol. Seems like 10-15 watts would be enough to keep the packs warm and wouldn't really reduce runtime at all..

Maybe some heated gloves or socks modified to run off 1 or 2S?

Hmm, even one of those little packs you can stuff in your boot or whatever to keep your feet warm..But then if the thing ever tore, what kind of chemicals are we mixing? lol

sorry that that lipo puffed.

when it's cold outside, I take a plastic thermo bag (eg. for beer, sandwich), and some of those warming-pads. I put the lipos into the bag.

when I arrive at the spot (about 20 mins by car), all lipos are nicley warm, round about 30 deg. c. and the beer's warm, too...

very cold lipos have a high IR, that could possibly damage the esc, or even the lipo. and, you have not that much punch.

that bag worked well so far.

Haha it is indeed!

Good catch..

I should have said- the cases don't provide insulation in the cold, and they block cooling air in the heat.. and even that isn't 100%, but hardcases suck all around IMO.

I'm pretty firm on that at least
