More then likely you will want to upgrade to the metal out drives. I melted mine at the diff rings (they embedded themselves into the plastic).

Hi Mike,
I got everything installed yesterday. Thanks for the quick shipping! I ran great with both the 9 cell and 7 cell packs. The 120A MGM ESC is a little big but I found a "decent" spot to mount it. Everything was running great until my radio glitched, the car hit a small curb, flew 10 feet in the air and broke a rear shock tower. I will replace it this weekend. I have the carbon ones and maybe the regular plastic ones are a little more durable. I am not sure.......
Anyways, still working on getting the programing portion to work but I will figure it out.
The speed and torque is just crazy....but the car seems to handle the power very well.

i don't want to jack this thread, but it is TC4 related.

I'm considering getting the kontronik twist 42 (mike, why don't you carry them? :-( ) and using 2 - 2s lipo's in series ( http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...7&I=LXJSJ1&P=K ) Think this would be a good setup or not? I'm running the MGM 80. I know the feigao 6s can't handle the 4s lipo setup.

I've been getting really annoyed at my battery packs. i use hot glue to keep them together and after a slight impact, all the cells break apart (stay in the car though), so when i take them out, they are like an acordian held together by the soldered tabs. i've also just wanted to run some lipo's for awhile.

The kontronics are very good motors, and the 4200 will scream on 14.8 volts. I use the lehner basic 4200 (similar performance) on 11.1 volts in my tc3 and it screams. 14.8 volts will be a rocketship. unless you are planning on pure speed, I don't think yuou will need 14.8 volts with that motor. On a tight track, my tc3 is almost undriveable on 11.1 volts. Just make sure you secure/protect the lipos.

Well, thats what i'm looking for, is a rocket. Looking purely for speed. Wide open parking lot runs. I just wanted your opinion if 4s, mgm 80, and twist 42 would be a reliable combination, or if i'm going to be pushing ESC/motor to their limits.

You think something like this should be geared low? or geared high? like we talking 20 tooth pinions, or 30+ tooth pinions?

It should be pretty reliable. I would keep the gearing low (closer to 20 teeth than 30). I think my tc3 is geared with a 24 pinion on 11.1 volts. For 14.8, I would drop to a 22 tooth and go from there.

Hi Mike,
I have a small problem. I figured out how to complete the programming for the MGM 120. I put it in CAR mode and am using all of the default parameters. This is working fine with the nine cell battery. When I switch to the seven cell and turn on the ESC, it turns on fine, beeps once (like it should) and when I give it throttle everything works great. As soon as put the throttle back into neutral and try to accelerate again, the ESC and the motor do not respond. Nothing happens. I tried reprogramming with the seven cell attached and that didn't help. I have been messing around with the timing (setting it as low as possible), the time to accelerate (lengthened it to possibly reduce AMP draw) and even the throttle neutral setting (upped that parameter) and still nothing works. If I put the nine cell back in, everything works fine. Any ideas?!

Hi Mike,
Now that the above problem is fixed :) , I have a question re. LiPo use for my setup. I currently am running a 2s2p 3000mah and it is working great. A friend of mine (who really knows brushless and LiPo technology) told me that a 2s3p battery would be better. A 2s3p could provide the higher amp draw that the 5300 requires. What do you think?!

It depends on the cells. Given the same cells, the 3p pack can discharge at a 33% higher rate. The 5300 can draw 60+ amps when accelerating quickly in a touring car, so if your packs are not rated for that discharge rate, then going to a 3p pack will make a noticeable difference.

Also, reprogram your controller for Lipos with the appropriate Lipo cell count. this way, the controller won't allow you to over-discharge the Lipos.

Hi Mike,
I can't tell you enough how well the TC4 is running. I got a 20c 2s 3000mah 7.4v LiPo, reconfigured the ESC (for the LiPo's) and started with a 20 tooth pinion. It ran great. I just switched to a 22 tooth and still runs great and absolutely no heat problems at all.
The car flat out hauls even with only a 7.4v battery. I am going to test run it at the track tomorrow.
