I have sent drwings of my truggy and buggy designs to Mike and they will use HV set up 10S and up. I only see a hand full of companies that have or will have HV car controllers. Castle is just coming out with all sorts of ESC and instead of doing the smart thing of making a surface controller for cars and boats, no they make it for boats onley. In my opinion they could've spent some knowledge and make a car/boat controller and sell more and make more profits. I gues they don't know yet that higher quantity means more money.

being alert is okay, but over concerned is another thing.

What MIGHT happen IF.. you can think over thousand situations what can go wrong.

Just being the devil's advocate here, and speaking from a manufacturing perspective. I agree that it is up the the parents or the kids to be responsible with the toys they buy. If I could buy a nice 12s car controller today I would (and then put it on my bicycle :D) From a manufacturers standpoint you have to think of the liability of the system, and cost/benefit of making it. I know 12s won't be any faster than 6s for most people, it will just be a runtime king with the same charge time as before. What I do know is that the car market has a different segment of users that are younger than the average plane and boat guy. I am also correct when I say "guy", as more than 95% if not 99% of us R/C addicts are indeed men. Go to RCgroups and see how many women you find there that are not there on business.

Now I'm out to ban kitchen knives and sharp forks!! For the childrens sake!!

Why are people afraid of a little voltage. I'm freakishly afraid of high AMPs. High AMP products run hot actually they run very hot. Just imagine if a Taser had just 1A, it would be enough to kill a whale. A 6S set up will in fact be the same speed as a 12S set up, but my motor and ESC will in fact run much cooler and last longer.

If there is a demand for a product, let the mfgs make it. You can still put together a 12s powered vehicle and use an air hv esc and mech brakes. Just as dangerous without reverse. Plus the 16 yr old kid that would be willing to pony up for a hv esc and the lipos to run it most likely is not as dumb as you think. They have a large box in their house with 240v in it too, should we ban house wiring too? How about staircases, 16yr olds could fall down that too and hurt themselves.

There are all kinds of potentionally hazardous items all around that are part of everyday life. Almost everyone over the age of 16 has the most potentionally dangerous item there is : a car. It only takes about 1hr to get a license to drive one and then you have roughly 2 tons of metal that can go at least 80mph. Think of the damage that can cause, both physical and property.

And trying to say that the rc car segment of the market is not ready for hv while the boat and air guys are is ridiculous. It would be just as easy for a newcomer to pick air or boats as a starting point, it does not have to be cars. Also keep in mind that the cost of hv deters the newcomers. For most people a mamba 7700 in a ruster on 6 nimh cells is over the top. "Use at your own risk" seems to be obvious, like the 50 mph stock nitro monster truck, don't hit yourself, it will hurt! That goes without saying, its like stepping out into traffic.

Common sense is required these days, no matter what you are dealing with. As an avid gun collector I deal with this sort of backward thinking all of the time. Idiots are constantly blaming guns for peoples deaths, instead of placing the blame where it belongs, with the operator.

If you want a good example of unsafe things making our lives better look at the space program. Does it sound likea good idea to strap 7 people on top of tons of highly explosive gas and have hundreds of support personel all around it and then light it off? Good thing that the people involed thought that was a good idea, or most of our electrical inovations that we take for granted would not have been developed.

If "Billy" cooks himself with his lipo I could care less. Maybe his dad should have been looking out for him. Maybe he should have read up about lipo safety frst. Sounds like you are just worried about natural selection: the kid who eats lead paint and plays in the street does not grow up to have kids of his own. This is the way it is meant to be. Being a safety Nazi is not going to cure that.

If you don't like the idea of HV coontroller for cars them don't buy one. However the rest of us that can se one and would like it should have the oportunity. We are capatilist remember. That means that one person does not know best (communism).
Man, I could not have said this better myself! I too am tired of everyone trying to protect us from ourselves, and this applies to many things not RC-related. And the "natural selection" thing is priceless! Funny but oh so true! Not only are we (society) lacking common sense, but also responsibility for our actions. I wonder how many manufacturers are scared to put out a product for fear of being sued by some dimwit who hurts themselves and then tried to blame it on someone else? I know I am tired of seeing "caution: hot product" on any food or hot beverage wrapping I buy.

I am not afraid of voltage, but respectful. I know that a 12s pack is likely to short across my fingers even when dry. 55v is the threshold for conduction through dry skin.

That old McDonalds lawsuit is where all of this crap started. The old lady spilled hot coffee on herself and sued McD because it burned her. Health regulation makes them keep the coffee above 140, skin burns at 120. I'm sure she wouldn't have spilled it on herself if they had the "hot" warnings on the cup back then. Yeah right...

Yeah, that McD thing was a load of crap. When she went to court, the judge should have slapped her for being such a half-wit. Now the precedent has been set for all morons to be rewarded for their stupidity and lack of common sense.

:sigh: Now I'm all worked up and need to go have a cigarette (and then sue the cigarette manufacturers for lung cancer ).

I'm hoping to get HV controllers done for us . I have nver had a problem even at 60V which is the highest I went so far on my Schulze 40.160.

Even if I had the SHV controller, all I was going to use it with is maybe 14S lipos max on a low turn big motor such as the 1521/2Y (40A), 1521/3D (44A) or a 1527/2Y (35A) and it is not to go fast, but to run it up to twice as long. A lot of people think that High Voltage means speed, but in my usage HV means less AMPs. I can use cheap 2200mAh packs and still run them for around 24 minutes on grass going around 45MPH. In a race that can mean a 30 minutes main due to less load from dirt. Also, I like to keep a margin on voltage. My controller for example will be able to handle 15S lipos, but I'm going to use 10S-12S lipos only and I'll have a marging of 11.1v to be safe. We all know what happens when a controller see voltage close to the FETs spec, they tend to have a melt down. So people keep in mind, HV means less AMPs, more run time and be able to use cheaper lipos.
Well put Lutach, keep working on that HV esc, I need one.

I'll just mention that I too agree 100% with BrianG, Lincpimp and whoever else agreed with them. Its survival of the fittest.... people have to watch what they buy and do everyday, and realize that all those things can be as dangerous as having a HV ESC and battery..... which isn't even that dangerous if you are careful and watch what you do.

I'm gonna have to agree with Linc. If your stupid enough to burn your house down, so be it. If you don't have enough common sense to do some so simple without killing yourself, them maybe it was for the best. Not to sound harsh or anything, but honestly, maybe thats what it takes. A few idiots burn there house down and all the other idiots get a clue to be somewhat cautious.

Speaking of natural selection- there was a news story a little while back about a boy who had just been swimming (holiday villa) and went indoors to play on his gameboy. Trouble is, he didnt dry his hands or anything else before plugging in the mains adaptor, and as a result got fried & died. Horrible I know, but it just goes to show the total lack of common sense and lack-lustre parenting on display; even I knew that electricity & water dont mix from a very early age. Now if you'll excuse me Im off to stick my fingers into a toaster, my hands are cold....

Man what ever happened to circuit breakers. When I was 7, I got electrocuted in Brasil. As you know they have 220V, but the circuit breaker kicked in. For some reason I still remember that day, how I was shaking none stop and my body felt numb. To think about it, that might have triggered something deep inside my brain and it explains why I'm addicted to HV.

Nice to know that I am not the only person who notices the poor state of parenting. Instead of teaching children it is all about blame-shifting. All of the whining about how everything that happens is not their fault, makes me sick.

I have a toaster oven, so I can actually dry the dog in it after I wash him, works alot better than the microwave (had to get a new dog after that one).
