Why yes I do. I stripped one down to make it run cooler, and it got into a fight with my spur gear (and lost). it has no heat pads, and some slight damage to it, but good to pry at and see how their made. I'd be glad to see it go to some use.
Have you added a place for 4 caps yet? I cut part of my case off and put 3 caps across from the other 2 caps, and 1 more next to them. 4 caps added right to the board. (FrankenQuark!!)
I love my Quark, I mod everything for racing , so 'fixing it' was going to happen anyway. The tips in this thread have been very helpfull.

So what do you mean, is it fried then?
I will only accept it if it is non-usable to you. Thanks in advance! :027:

AAngel: IIRC, it was you that said you talked to Frank at S&T and said there was a banch of Quark's with bad caps? Did he say when these were made, or when they were sold?

Fried, chewed up a little, missing parts. It came loose from the chassis of my 8ight, right after I removed ALL of its case (reckless of me), and was killed by the spur gear. After it died, I used it as a guide to figure out how I was going to do mods on its replacement. (I wanted to add caps to the board, and repair the faulty inner FETs heat sink design, and found where the two 'boards' seperate making it a lot easier.)
I'm done tinkering with it, and threw it into my broken parts box. Its missing 1 cap, the on/off switch, and both heat sinks. (heat batteries is more like it)
I have the case, and 2 sets of end covers as well if you need these. Let me know.
I use UPS, they go up north dont they? If not, I think its small enough for U.S. Mail. E-Me and let me know, I'd be more then happy to ship it to you.
The info in this thread was well worth it, and I may want to be on the list for your after market case too.....:027:

ZPB, Frank didn't mention any specifics.
I finally got an email from S&T yesterday. They said to send it in and they might warranty it. I know that I did the mod to it and I was working on it, but on the other hand, the Quark wasn't put together very well either. I'm hoping that they will warranty it.
I also heard from MGM and they said that they got my Compro just yesterday. I sent it via Global Priority, but it took over three weeks to get there. This sucks. If my Neu doesn't run well with the MM, then it's just going to have to wait.
If S&T doesn't warranty the Quark, I don't think I'll be getting another. I think that S&T has much of their resources devoted to the new controller that they have coming out and the Monster Pro is suffering because of it. I mean, what are the odds that I'd get two Monster Pros in a row that would give me trouble.

Thats thanks to our wonderfull customs. Unless it's Global Express (EMS) that leaves customs in few hours most of the time, it can take them 2-4 weeks to process it. I went to customs ONCE for my package and there is always just one guy and he needs about 15minutes per person. Never again so i rather wait fot them to process it. (week ago got stuff ordered from TH that left on May 12th and still waiting for stuff that left on 9th)
Will get tomorrow Nippon Chemi-Con LXZ (best I could find around europe actually) series 470uF caps so will see how it will help.

OK, a couple of you guys are going to be upset. I gave a few packages to my secretary to mail out. Unfortunately, she unknowingly dropped them in the outgoing box without the customs forms, so I got them back. I am leaving for lunch in about an hour and will go to the post office myself and take care of this. I'll be shipping by Global Priority, so it won't take too long, although it's already been long enough.
Sorry.

Oh, I don't know what I'd do without mine, but there are just some things...
Oddly enough, she's never had to ship anything out of the country before. LOL.

"(heat batteries more like it)" :005: I like that.
Well, if it's past warranty for you then I will gladly take it from your hands. Let's just make sure it's shipped the cheapest economy mail.
AAngel: What is the new controller coming out? The plasma, or the rumored 'Quark 125C' ? I sure hope I don't have a faulty one again, as this one does not seem to be soldered in a friendly manner, literally.
Bummer about the caps, oh well, until I get them, I have some solid polymer ultra low ESR 470uF/10v caps from a VC card that died on me. I will use two in series for now, they should work very well, and not blow out on me.
Wallot: Let us know what your experiences are with those caps will you? Also, the heatsink you have on your Quark, that looks VERY similar to my Arctic cooling Silencer heatsink I was going to use but ran out of room...

Sweet
And on a not so sweet note... I wired up my new Quark, all ready to go. To my most annoyed surprise, it COGS, cogs like MAD! I am totally confused, I have a large 10,000uF 25v cap (temporary). It will only start spinning when I give it about 50% throttle or above, even then, the motor sounds like it is not running right.
When I turn the Quark on, it does it's CHIME start-up, but it's very quiet, not near as loud as it was before my last one quite.
My gut feels so bad right now, waiting so long for something that I paid a lot for, and for it to do be another 'piece'.
S&T, what is going on? :032:

WELL , LA De DA! Just my luck!
QUARK FRIED AGAIN!
:035: :035: :035: :035: :035: :035: :035: :035:
The thing turned into a FOG machine, there was smoke poring out of it and laying along my table.
I seriously don't want to wait another month, only to have another Quark blow up. :018: See that face, that's not a happy face! :036:

Wow, that sucks. It looks like those FETs really went out with a bang! Did you do the internal mod to that one too?

No, I didn't do anything to it. I think one of the FET's was maybe faulty, and then it blew, and caused a chain reaction, wow. The whole room absolutely wreaks of burnt FET. :036: It was cursed from the beginning.
I'll see if I can just give S&T a pic of this one and they send me new one?
