For the same value ($300) I got a $75 discount ..... but I have to add shipping (to Italy) and custom fee

Rant for the day... Or you could get them from Mike!

On something like ESC's mike's always been competative with TH etc and seems freaking rude to post on his site that you are off buying from others.

Whilst margins are obviously much higher for buying direct even Patrick needs people to buy from retailers/distributers such as mike.

Well, why is it that when ever I pull out a new toy to show it to a significant person something like this always happens???
Plugged in my XL, was beeping for a bit until I realized I hadn't plugged it into the receiver since downloading my last run...
plugged it into the receiver and it didn't arm. So I unplugged the batts from it, and plugged them back in.
Went through it's start-up routine just fine, armed, and I drove the car about 20 feet. It stopped wheels turned (like the BEC turned off) then came back to life, drove another 2 feet and FIRE!!!
My new super bad azz Mamba XL is dead, and it tried to take my car and lipo's with it. The batts appear fine aside from a little loss of heat shrink in a few spots and the receiver looks ok too.
I just plugged in my MMM and the car runs/ drives fine. Looks like I'll be spending some time on the phone tomorrow with Castle support.

If I could only draw what I see in my head, then afford to build it, and finaly get to play with it...

Aww man, that really stinks. :( I'm sure Castle will have you running again soon though. Luckily there was no harm to the motor or batteries. How many runs have you had on it? I've done two on mine and the only problem I've had was that I had to recalibrate it after a crash. Maybe it was the BEC since you didn't have it plugged in? Not sure if that would do anything though. Best of luck getting your buggy running again.

I think it was a problem with the internal BEC, the way it shut down and started up again was just like the CC BEC did when I had the Savox servo go bad.
I'd turn then the car would shut off, then rearm and be good till I turned again.

I just can't remember if I heard it rearm, or just start moving again... I think it was quick enough that it didn't go through a start up cycle.

3 runs, and I kept the data from all 3. It was looking awesome! And I had intended to start ramping it down today to make it more track manageable.

What Lipos are you running? What C rating and brand. I have heard that as brushless systems get larger and larger...they actually need top-shelf lipos. Bargain lipos offer a good price, but a lot of "ripple" comes with them sometimes. When an esc goes up in flames..it is often times "ripple" that damages the electronics from sub par lipos. Just what I have read/heard.

Castle is a great company and will most likely take care of you., but be sure to talk to Bernie in tech support about the XL and lipo recommendations. Their support is second to none....Even with some failures now and then....I would not own another brushless system other than Castle. Wish you the best on figuring out the bugs...most likely it is your lipos. Guys running Hyperion G3 35-65c lipos have had good luck using Castle's line of BIG speed controls. If you figure something out...let us all know.

Lipos are turnigy 40/50c 5000mah 4s packs in series. The ripple current was good according to the data logger and the max amp draw it saw was right around 100a. This couldn't have been a load issue as I was barely running it out a little bit to get started playing. I was actually getting ready to order some smaller lipos as I didn't need 30+ minute run times as I needed a little weight back :-)

Yes, Castle has the very best service in the industry. That's why I haven't and won't be buying any "clones" during my rc days.

So the first one is well done...sorry to "hear" and see that. Good is that everything else is OK!
Well i guess it happens to best to...i had like 5x MMM V3 burned on 6S.. but support was more than great... so i never complain over CC, just hope this ESC can handle 6S as i am buying one in 12h (as here is night time) :)
Just in case i will use CC Bec Pro, maybe u should consider about one!?

Q: Does mamba xl comes with 6,5mm bullets already soldered on the wires?
Got 1520 waiting..

EDITED: Why didnt CC put together Mamba XL and Bec Pro or stronger Bec than it is at the moment?

I second this. Hyperion is all I use nowadays.

Is using a seperate BEC or even a RX battery a good idea that could prevent a meltdown like Drknow65 pictured? If so, I will gladly buy a LIFE RX pack. Any thoughts?

I'm only guessing about why it died I really have no idea... I'm just going by intuition and the fact that the only thing different than any other time I used it was plugging it into the receiver after it was powered up.

Bummer dude! Upside is it's a cc product and you won't get hung out to dry, but soaked with support. Are you actually planning to race that setup? Just asking as it looks a mite heavy up front that's all.
