-in the process of soldering deans connectors to my lipos...i had BOTH wire ends exposed and when i put them down onto my METAL table.....i had sparks galore along with a shorted out 4th cell in a brand new 5s lipo pack

-deans plug soldered on backward on the esc

-buying a blade cp pro right after i just bought a blade cx2 thinking i was an expert in rc heli's after that...well...1 month and 100's of replaced parts later it ends up going back onto ebay...lol

-numerous stripped hexes due to low quality hex wrenches leading to drilling/dremeling to save an $80 chassis..

-series is NOT the same as parallel connectors....that one definitely sucked...

oh yeah that reminds me of #2 RC fook up, my wife bought me an rc plane, brushless cheapo kind of $250 huge wings a motor that ROARED, so we take it to the park and she shoves the throttle on full as I was setting the prop up, my finger nearly fell off. again no health insurance so I used duct tape and some bounty paper towels. who needs a DR

Bought a $600 Nitro RC, then found out I was allergic to Nitro fuel. ($125 loss)

Put my first brushless system into my e-revo while still running the crappy stock radio, took it out to the alley beside by house, which has all kinds of power lines running down it. Had the car stopped facing me, turned to talk to my wife, and it took off on its own. Turned in time for it to hit me full on in the shin. Hurt to walk for a week. I've since switched to 2.4 and refuse to run anything else.

Bought a mlst2. Breaks all the time and I hate working on it.

My first real RC was a Tamiya Subaru Brat, then a Hornet. We're going back to the stick radio days.... '84-'86 ish, so electric performance wasn't all that and I thought I wanted a nitro. So I ended up getting an 8th scale .21 'buggy' from (think it was) Hobby Shack. And a hot new Futaba Attack(!) 2 channel AM superdeluxe stick radio.

I was the SH!T

Until I figured out what a piece of crap I just spent like 6 bills on. In 1986 dollar$.....
Untuneable, clutch was garbage, brakes not even worth mentioning, and when it did run "right" it was uncontrollable. Sold it soon thereafter and decided the Tamiyas were still tough to beat, 3 step mechanical ESC with reverse baby!

Fast forward to 2006, just got my V1 Mute done and ready to try the sky. So I got a Venom Night Ranger 3D! Yeaaaaah.
I should have known it would have much in common with Night Ranger, the 80s band. Unflyable Walkera knock-off turd never-parts-in-stock POS wallet emptier.

So helis + me =

Not one to give up easily, I thought, "maybe a plane?"
I got a Diablo. I forget who makes it, I don't care.
The emphasis needs to be put on the last 3 letters of that name. Total crap. Brushed EDF. Then bought a BL ESC, and a stupid high kv inrunner. Just crashed faster and harder. Not to mention the thing sounded like a pissed-off Shop Vac. Yeah, neighbors are gonna love this....

I was almost done with planes... until I got my Super Cub. I still suck at flying, but at least the damn thing crashes in the last direction I left it in and I have some hope now..... some. And what a blast making these things stupidly overpowered. I am running a CC T-bird 54, 25C packs and a 1320 kv outrunner which is good for a theoretical 17,000 rpm.... in a 30 ounce plane.

I'm not sure if the younger guys can really appreciate how far things have come, but us codgers sure do. Used to be the stuff of RC dreams.

I have two real good ones, I'll post later...

another big mistake i had was when I just got my brand new RC-Monster 2s2p 5200mah 28c lipos. these were amazing! and $100 a piece. I wanted to run my hyper 7 with them so badly(this was an upgrade from a protek 4s,4000mah 20c) even though I didnt have a battery tray yet.(I'd velcro my lipo on.) so I taped the batteries together, velcroed it down, and started bashing in my school's parking lot. it was 15 degrees out, so I dont know what caused me to check for temperatures, but i did. sure enough, my lipos moved, and the spur started eating at them. It didnt eat through the case, but if it had moved just another mm closer it would have.

Many months later, my MMM detonated, taking out those $200 in batteries too. Now I won't buy anything but cheap lipos. I got a pair of 2s 28c 5000mAh neuenergy lipos off of entjoles for $50, and everything else is zippy powered.

Remember this mike...

Oh the joy of running in sub freezing weather in a school parking lot before robotics... plastic doesnt like to flex at those temperatures..

About 3 weeks ago, my buddy is coming in for a landing with his Cub, it's dusk, so perception is getting difficult. I have a massive field behind me with just fairly thin treelines. I look away a minute and hear "AW MFer!!!" I turned around and the plane is nowhere in sight. "You DIDN'T!"

Yeah, treed it. On one of the neighbor's property. So we made our way back to the tree, good 200 yards out. We get up to the bunch of trees, and it's hard to even tell which tree the plane is in. And it's about 20 minutes until sunset.

"We can't leave the lipo in the tree, there's nothing to climb.....WTF!"

So the owner rolls up on his quad and scopes out the situation, was very cool about it. In fact he offered to cut the tree down! We mulled it over a minute, and all decided it was the only way. He comes back with a logger's chainsaw, I said "you sure you're alright with this?"

He was, and had to cut another smaller tree down to make way for the taller one! I still wasn't convinced he was cutting the right tree and it was getting dark fast. So he made a notch cut and dropped a 60+ foot tree with a SuperCub on top like he'd done it every day of his life.. and the plane floated off where it was stuck and hit the ground totally undamaged!

How do you guys like to meet your neighbors?
