Thats great that the temps are so low. That means there is room for mroe speed.:027:

Anyway, looks great. The mount should be really sturdy.

Yup, I am going to a 36 tooth spur and maybe even a 20 tooth pinion. Also first gear helps out alot too. The mount is pretty sturdy, could have been thicker though. I like 8mm for motor mounts, the Revo motor mount that Mike made is about 6mm thick I think...

I really like that motor mount. Only thing is it uses the stock motor mount, which I don't particularly care for since it ends up racing the CG if I'm not mistaken. How high is the bottom of the motor to the chassis?

I will have Neu and Feigao 540c specific rear supports(and a slightly higher front mount) for these kits by the end of the weekend. I modified the design to raise the motor mount holes .1" to allow use of most motors typically used(Feigao 540c, Neu). The initial mount was optimized for smooth can motors.
The whole idea with this mount is that is a direct bolt on and allows use of the nitro final adjustments. I could easliy make a lower cg mount to bolt right to the chassis, but thought the nitro adjustment was a nice feature to incorporate(one or two screws that are easily accessed vs. adjusting the mount and rear support each time). With the motor any lower, it becomes a real PITA to make adjustments as well, as accessing the screws(lower screw in particular) would almost REQUIRE removing the radio tray.
The front mount and rear support are around 5mm thick - with support at the rear, I felt a thicker mount was unnecessary and would only add weight and potential pinion/set screw issues. :)

I'm glad you made one that actually bolts to the motor mounts rather than the chassis. Ther chassis does have some flex, but the way the stock Nitro mount is made lends some rigidity to the whole area. Nice job Mike!

Yea...I think the stock nitro motor mount is quite important for chassis rigidity, as it also ties in the the rear bulkheads and such.

I've been pushing my friend to build on just like this now.

The two speed should also help increase runtime. First gear would be just like a low geared machine, so it wouldn't draw too much power, but second gear would still provide that high top speed. Also lets the motor run cooler too.

I got my Revo mount today in the mail and installed it. Wow, it's nice. NO flex whatsoever. With my last mount, I could push down on the back of the motor (with some force) and it would flex affecting mesh. This mount is as solid as a rock! Looks pretty too. :) Later, I plan to take some pics and post them in my long dead revo thread.

The two speed would be nice, but I honestly don't think that the little clutch arm or the single pin it engages can stand up to serious power. Not to mention you lose reverse and need a mechanical brake solution. If I was going to stick with the two speed, I would use a 9L or 10L, use the narrow ratio gearset (so there isn't a big leap between switching), and use 38/15 spur/pinion.

I don't know...if they can stand up to 2.5-3hp Nitro engines, I'm pretty sure they can hold up to the average brushless system (not like a 2250 on 5S, but something resonable).

Plus, Robinson Racing came out with a bunch of steel gears so you can basically make the entire Revo tranny steel, including the 2 speed gear sets. They are hella expensive, but its a possibility if you really want to stick with the two speed and have it be really reliable.

Yeah, but those 2.5-3hp engines don't have the instantaneous torque that BL has.

Actually, the stock mounts aren't that strong. I broke one with just a little 2.5R. Not from a bad crash or anything either, just from the power. But there just cast aluminum crap. I'll probably be looking into some of those gears along with the HD slipper plate.
