1st question, answer = they produce the same level of torque as such, though torque is a product of power in terms of wattage, or something confusing like that- lower kv motors tend to produce more torque than high kv ones at any rate.

I wouldnt choose the 2700kv option for 4s lipo, ever, its just too much of an amp hog and limits you to 4s lipo permanently.

2nd question is more tricky, as either route can be made to work well, and there are two schools of thought as such.

I personally favour the lower kv with higher voltage option, gearing is moot really as with a higher kv and lower voltage it will be roughly the same give or take a tooth. The fun starts when you get into debating what the perfect kv and voltage is; in principle the 2200kv on 4s is perfect, but many will say that motor (1515 1y) doesnt 'come alive' until you feed it 5s lipo, though 6s would still be too much for liking, speed runs only.

All depends on your voltage really, I would say the best alround motor for bashing/racing/ speedy stuff would be the much overlooked 1515 2D; still fun on 4s with slightly taller gearing, perfect for 5s, and plenty fast on 6s.

1515 2.5d is an excellent 6s motor for long runtimes and cool temps, and will tolerate taller gearing as such due to lower current draw, but good batts are essential with any of the above options in order to get the most out of the setup.

Im loving the 1518 1800kv motor castle will be bringing out soon, I really want one of those things baddly for my 5s setup.

What is the kv rating going to be on the new 1518 motors or are they going to have different set ups ? I saw they were looking for beta testers awhile ago too bad I wasnt ready for that yet. Maybe in the next couple of month while im selling things and aquiring parts there will be a new hot set up too get as always Id like to be on the cutting edge.

1518 = 1800kv, ideal for 5s and 6s use, and wont be a slouch on 4s either really (my 9XL (1900kv) did very well on 4s lipo, sensible power for racing I'd say).

Thats the thing though, the speed BL is moving at the moment nothing will stay top-dog or cutting edge for all that long, but budget vs performance is my main concern- $150 for a Neu quality motor is a bargain.

Yea that what I am saying I probably wait till the end to buy my ecm engine combo. Right now the mmm combo seems like the best bang for the buck @ ~$255 shiped. call me picky but I just dont like green lol.

Me neither actually- I have some oven cleaner & masking tape that can fix that though...

After finally getting the chance to buy 2 3s 5000mah 30c batts that are constantly out of stock and saving some money too possibly finish this build. I need to figure out a few things. I was also waiting for the slipperential to come out for this truck but I really dont see it happening. So I am going to use the g-maxx single speed conversion with a hardened idler gear. I also am going to use a strobe slipper with a 51 mod 1 tooth spur gear. I am going to get a castle creations monster mamba max combo with the 2200 kv motor on 6s. Can anybody experienced with this setup recomend 3 good combination of pinion gears to go with ? I am planning to use ultra deans connectors anyone have an alternative better plug they like better and why. With the heat we have been having lately I hopefully will have more time inside to finish this build. Sorrry about all the pics I will post new ones as the build moves on.

I like my 5.5mm gold bullet connectors, but there is a fairly recent thread with pros, cons and alternatives to every connector going- might be worth seeking it out.

On the gearing question, you can start off with fairly conservative, then work your way up until temps start to climb:

51/14 = 42mph
51/16 = 48mph
51/18 = 54mph

My only concern would be that a small spur gear may not mate up with certain small-ish pinions, but instead the motor will hit the tranny before they can mesh/ mate up properly. Cant really answer that myself as I have a smaller diameter motor (36mm vs 39mm for the smooth can neus) and 32p gearing..

If I remember right george16(lito) was running ~20 tooth pinion on his but not sure on how many volts. Thanks for the help neil I just finished catching up on your build. I also read jo freaks build and he had mike make him a center cd mount for his g3. I might want to go that route.
