its not mod1 because i have a bunch of mod 1 gears for my truggies and they dont mesh up right with the gears on the 1/5. they are much larger than the mod 1.

Ryu James:

Can you take a close up of the 3 speed gearbox setup? Is there a clutch bell on it? I think you are getting the speeds because of the gearbox as I find it very difficult to gear a car for speed as well as acceleration without compromising battery life or weight.

If you have any pictures / diagrams of the pinion / spur set up it would be appreciated

the previous pages of this thread have pics of the 3 speed (page 4) on the 1/8 schumacher. it is a pinion gear. i am happy with how the thing drives though. it is insane fast both off the line and top end. any faster would be undrivable. it already is pretty tough to drive.

Wow , donated 5th scale
you must be a really nice generous guy.

Very interested in the power details, be sure to list where you got parts and stuff.

no, actually the guy that donated is a very nice, generous guy. i am a greedy bastard!

i am just finishing my RC8t build and have finished my 1/8 schumacher so now i can move on to the 1/5. however, Mohanjude turned me onto these 1/5 brushless setups that are absolutely sick in germany on ebay. plus i can get the complete setup (except battery and servo) for the same as what it would cost me to make a motor mount if i convert this one on my own. for basically $500 US plus $50 shipped you get the car, painted body, motor, esc, ARTR. just needs lipo and servo like i said. check it out. and check out their other auctions. so i am thinking of just getting one of these and then adding a more badass motor to it.

I have already got this car. The body shell is excellent. The motor mount looks like it will do the job. As I expected the brushless motor and controller are not upto the job of propelling this car to any significant speed. However I have got a big bad Lehner 2250 or 2280 just waiting to be mounted. Looking to power it on 10s. Hopefully it will be worth the effort. The car is a fraction of the weight of my FG aluminium car that is heavy due to the aluminium, hydro brakes etc..

RYU JAmes - did you actually purchase the car and receive it yet?

no, i havent bought it yet. but i could see that it would be tons lighter than my 1/5 too. my Smartech has a HUGE, thick aluminum chassis that weighs a ton and that one on ebay is alot more narrowed down. also, i figured for $500 that the motor and speed control would not be that great but thats ok. at least i dont have to do any modding. just buy a better motor and esc like you have done and throw it in.

post some pics and some vid of yours when you get it finished putting the better parts in. would love to see it.

what about a big outrunner motor? in general high efficiancy, and lots of torque which is recommended for such a big car.

there are many companies around, producing high quality outrunners.

these guys here http://www.torcman.de/ have for example a monster which can pull up to 4000 watts...

or e.g. flyware, I just have ordered one of their large inrunners (8pole), as the feigao-clones' magnets break...

here's an outrunner that takes up to 45 volts: http://www.flyware.de/wde/erp/shop.php?navid=4

65 mm of diameter should provide some power

they also have nice motors (some are inrunner-looking outrunners), but probably too small: http://www.mvvs-electricmotors.de/index.php
