We Did It! (Team Tetanus) - 04.24.2008, 07:25 AM

Just got done building and programming my teams Vex 15lbs robot named "tetanus". We got all the way to the finals and creamed the top team on the way their 25points to 10points. We were 4/5 going into the finals. We were up against a robot called C.O.D. It had huge rep for scoring bigtime points in a short period of time but it had two major flaws. It was topheavy and it was pretty slow which got our hope us. When entering the final we scored 10 extra points for autonomous mode which means the robot runs itself and scores points without any signals from the transmitters but so did team C.O.D. Tetanus did very well! We racked up 15 points in 30seconds which is good. We got all the point poles in our corner and we were losing by 2 points in the last 10 seconds of the competition so we decided to move one more post into our territory to score 5 extra points. We the last 3-4 seconds came around and we got jammed in the corner. If it wasnt for my foolish driving mistake we woulda won 1st place but Im still very happy. We as a matter of fact did win the overall creativity award and most important of all the good sportsmanship award. So basically we won 2/3 awards that were given. I have a good short video of Tetanus and C.O.D.

Here are the pics... Im the one in the dark blue shirt.

Congrats! That's pretty impressive!

Did you have an RC-M sticker on it anywhere? ;-)

That's really cool - congratulations. I remember back when I was in high school and science projects involved building windmills and generators lighting an LED before most new what LEDs were.

You have to move up to FRC. Best thing I ever did with my time. I stuck with it and now I have a scholarship to study Mechanical Engineering. And if it's any parents that have kids with a First robotics team in thier high school I highly recommend you encourage them to give it a try.

I'm feeling very old here right now. What's FRC?

High school for was back in 1988, so technology was a little different then. Computers were just finding a place ith the Apple IIc, CDs had existed for 4 years, no cell phones, and 45's were still in existence.

Either way - I was always into the technology - even if it wasn't the most popular place to be. And in the long run it has paid off for me pretty well.

My recommendation for anyone one this site who is going into college or getting out of college - if you want to make really good money get into the financial field. You don't have to be an investment banker or analyst, but even working IT or telecom in the financial industry pays off very nicely.

Do you have anywhere inparticular to look into? I graduate May 3rd in Economics, so analysis(portfolio, risk, market, business, etc) is right down my alley.
