pinion gear from 7xl motor meshing on stock spur - 05.12.2008, 09:25 PM

i got my 5mm pinion from rcmonster and im using a stock traxxas 68t spur. but the teeth is not meshing right. like only half of the teeth is meshing onto the spur. is it suppose to be like this. i ordered the 5mm 24t pinion...but im not sure if rcm sent me the mod 1 5mm pinion. if they did. would it still mesh at all with my spur or no? im worried this is the wrong pinion and dont want to run my truck until i have this figured out....please help
the depth of the teeth on the pinion gear is filled up becuase the teeth on the spur gear is taller, but the teeth on the pinion gear is sooooo short...and its squarish instead of shape of a point...so only half of the spur gear teeth is being used...correct?

Sounds like you have 2 different pitch gears. Any chance of a pic? Or maybe measure the diameter of the pinion in mm. If it is a 24t mod1 pinion then it should measure 26mm across at the widest point. The stock spur is 32p, and they are not compatible at all.

the mod 1's are different from 32p the teeth are farther apart, so no it wont work, thats your problem i would imagine

He mentioned this on the traxxas forums. Turns out he meant the depth of the teeth not the mesh. The teeth on rc-monster spurs are not pointy so that threw him off.

i dont have a camera hah. well if the mod ones teeth are farther apart than 32p spur...then i think i have the right one cus it does mesh together, but the teeth on the pinion is just short so it doesnt fit snug with the spur.
