4wd buggy - 05.31.2008, 05:26 PM

i have been looking at a lot of different rc cars since my rustler is about done. i kinda want to go something that i can run on a track. i was kinda looking into getting a 4wd buggy. so far here are my picks

-trf501x (down side to this buggy is its belts and not sealed )
-b44
-laser zk-5

those are the ones im looking at now.

i like the trf501 cause i have always liked tamiya and i love belt driven cars. (loved my tc5 and ta05). but this one is not sealed so rocks and stuff can get in it and ruin the belts.

as for the b44 we sell it at my work and we have parts. so i would be able to get a good price on it and parts.

the zx-5 i like casue i already have lipo batterys that would work great in it. but thats the only good thing i can see on this.

as for pricing the most expensive one is the trf501x. its like 470$ and the b44 and the zx-5 is about the same pricing at about 300$

what do you guys think i should go with.?

RCCA did a review on the top buggys

The HB's D4 WCE, B44, Kyosho lazer, and the 501X

I cant find the link right now, but I know the kyosho won 1st, HB's in second, B44 in 3rd, and tamiya took last!

I do also remember that they said the HB's D4 was the ONLY car not to break parts during testing... I vote HB's, but im a HB's driver, so I may be biased

The D4 has some sort of problem with their diffs but can't remember what, the kyosho is best value for money and only one to be able to use lipo packs so there would be alot more range of batteries to get, the B44 is also great and since parts will be easy to get might be a good choice to also consider that one but if you not racing id go the kyosho. The Tamiya is over priced and parts aren't that easy to get for it, it was also only going to be a limited kit

They fixed the HB's diffs with the WCE, and im pretty sure the normal ones are fixed as well

No one has had the diff issues around here anymore

I agree though, the Tamiya is a sick car, but WAY over priced, and hard to get parts for

If you like Tamiya, take a look at the DB01 Durga. It's belt, but the drivetrain is sealed like the Losi. It uses stick packs so you could easily run lipo, and uses the same wheels as the 501x. The owner of my LHS just built one with all the Tamiya hop-ups and it looks good. I think he said he was going to race it this weekend so I'll ask him what he thinks of it.

drkros3 - I'm not sure if you are still looking for a 1/10 scale buggy but here is what my ZX-5 looks like, unfortunatly it's naked but hopefully i'll have that fixed soon. I love this buggy so far and i have not broke a thing.
