Need help with 4S racing setup

I am about ready to give up on my converted mbx5 and go nitro (I hate NITRO!) Over the last three years I have spent tons of money.

Recent failure has been with a medusa 36-50-2200 with a MM with cap and fan, ubec, geared 14/46, running 4300 4s zippy packs. The speed controller and batteries stayed cool but the motor got way too hot 240f. Geared 12/46 and the motor stayed cool but was too slow and wound up so fast that it was very hard to control.

I need to be able to run 15min or preferable 20 min mains.

I'm thinking neuenergy 5000 lipo, neu 1512 geared at 12/46?

The Neu 5000 lipo is a good choice (should get at least 15 min), as well as a Neu motor. I would check fit for the larger (39mm smooth can) Neu, the smallest pinion I can fit in my buggy is 14T with a smooth Neu. A 1512 2.5D geared for about 40mph should do the trick.

Enerland celled packs(Neu, Flight Power, Poly Quest) packs, Neu motors(1515 for Truggy/ 1512 for Buggy), and a MMM(once a comepletely succesful batch is released) will solve the failure and heat issues. 5000mah will get you a solid 15 min.s in a buggy and 12 or so min.s in a Truggy at near expert pace.

If you want to run 12/46 you'll probably want the 1512/2d @ 2550kv. I think the 2.5d(2050kv) with a 14 or even possibly 15 would be a better choice, though.

Someone else will probaby chime in. I've found lower kv/higher gear combos lead to happpier compenents.

So a 1512 2.5d geared 14/46 and 4s 5000mah for 15min race. Do you think 6000mah would get me through the 20min A main? If so does anyone sell a quality 6000mah lipo pack?

You may need to go 15/46 with that motor. Don't know of any high quality 6000 cells off hand.

If you don't do any practice lap and manage you trigger finger well you should be able to pull off a 20 min. main with a 6000. However, Imo, a 6000 makes too heavy of a buggy trying to run with the expert nitro guys. Actually, my 8ight needed to go on diet with a 5000mah 20c Enermax. At some point the loss off handling for extra runtime overcomes the ability of setup changes to compensate for it. Here is a link to Mike's Polyquest 4s 6000mah 25c pack.......625 g's!

1512 2.5d, 4ea. 2s 5000 neu energy lipos=$645 for lipos and motor that won't make it the full length of the A-main. It's frustrating the tecnology is not there yet.

I think I need a crt.5, xxx4, or mt2 to turn laps until there's better race buggy setups to buy. I love my brushless/lipo mf2 but the track is too dry and loose most of the time for two wheel drive.

My last few outings I've been trying my 4S 10,000mah pack and actually have gotten used to the weight. TQ'ed and won 15 min A-main (not to brag ) I made the pack from individual 10,000 MaxAmps cells they had for only ~$32 each. It sure is a brick but I don't worry about making the long mains anymore. Had to make some serious setup changes but it actually drove and jumped great. Had to go down to an 11/44 on RC8 with 1512/2D to keep the motor from getting too hot (8.6lb buggy) and gave up a little speed on the long straight but won by almost a full lap on a 37sec/lap track.

It is somewhat frustrating but remember, we're trying to run our apples with a bunch of oranges. Also keep in mind that all those 10th scale cars you listed are quite fragile compared 1/8 scale buggies and truggies. In addition to the rising costs of Nitro, there are several companies releasing "turn key" conversions and better, more reliable controllers are now becoming available. Hopefully, these factors will expedite the point in time that there are plenty of apples in the orchard and main times will settle in the 10 min. Truggy, and 15 min. Buggy range. There are always challenges and setbacks for those ahead of the curve but I will gladly deal with them in order to avoid the alternative; nitro fuel and all the wonderful things that accompany it.
