Hydra 120 "Anyone Run It?" - 07.21.2008, 09:36 AM

Ive been wondering if anyone here on rcm run the hydra 120 in their 1/8 conversions. If so how well does it do and what are the temps you get on your setup. I plan on running dual fans on each side just to be safe.

Man, if I hadn't bought my HV-110, I would have gone with a Hydra. I think Finedesign used one in a 1/8 sedan conversion with water cooling installed: http://www.finedesignrc.com/ct-kyosho.asp (middle of page)

hi

i can not tell you much as i just did some short tests with the hydra 120.
the esc is very smooth in forward and reverse. however i couldn't setup the brakes properly for a car application. whatever i did with the brake curve (extreme exponential etc) it seemed to have no effect on the actual braking behaviour. somewhat strange. the brake was more like all or nothing. my experience was that this was typical for air escs but not for boats. esc where you can choose between a car and a boat modus (e.g. schulze) the boat modus has a weaker brake than the car modus. so i expected the brake to be too weak rather than too strong.
so it seems that the esc can only be applied to a car with mechanical brakes. with a proper watercooling circuit the esc shouldn't have too big heat problems. but i can not comment much on this as i didn't ran it enough. nevertheless my intention now is to use it now in another car with mechanical brakes. i am pretty confident that it will work.

bye
