project gas saver. lol brushless scooter - 07.25.2008, 02:42 AM

ok since gas prices are pretty high and i have to go 19miles one way to my school 3 days out of the week. but only 3 miles one way to my work every day i was thinking about building a brushless scooter. so i can get to work and from my car to my classes lol.

i was thinking about using my kick scooter i have as a frame. and then use a big outrunner motor. like one of the kms ones. and then maybe using like a dewalt 33.3 volt a123 packs (i would make a few packs and then just them all together that way i can use it for my rock crawler too) and then a 100amp plane esc that can handle 33.3 volts.

i can figure out almost everything on the scooter except for one thing.

the throttle.

i cant figure out a way to make ti so i can contorl the throttle from the handle bars.

any ideas.

also any ideas on a cheap airplane esc that would work.

You may have to mod some radio gear and mount it on the handles

Can't wait to see this. :)

they are $5 - $10 from tower. let us know how this goes, my friend has a mini motobike (razor) which carked itself, so we have batteries and frame but just need another esc + motor. which motor were u thinking of??

There are quite a few people already doing these sort of things... Save yourself some time and $$ and use a permanent magnet DC motor instead. These are the large (compared to RC stuff) motors normally used in electric scooters. A 1200-watt motor is around $90 and the 48v controller to power such a thing is $50. Check TNCScooters.com. This combo on a lightweight scooter frame should have you running along at 30+ mph. From there you can go with standard SLA 12v batteries or spend that good 'ole RC money on some LiFePo batteries for much better performance.

I just crazy how thing goes in the USA, Here in France Gas is commonly priced around 8.87 US$ for a gallon.
For somebody that work far from his house it can cost 1/3 of his paycheck.

1 liter of oil is now just more expensive than 1 liter of wine :/

As far as I know the Farmer here are switching from Beet for food to Beet for bio ethanol and production of other "green" gasoline.

Then it's off topics, I was thinking to make an heavy duty E-bike probably based on a 6S 12 to 20 Ah Lipo, probably from hobbycity (around 500 $ of battery)

Prince Charles runs his car on wine.

I've been concidering an E-scooer or something along those lines for a while, but I would be happy with a lightweight manual one I could carry uphill, then ride downhill & on the level; or use the Gmaxx as a horse, and ride along chariot style....

You could buy a nice bicycle with all the money in electronics that it would cost, check out http://www.moots.com/# sounds like fun though

I agree, 3 miles on a bike is nothin....

This is a awesome idea! I already thought about this too, only difference that I would make a brushless bike..

You could also buy a NEU 2200 series, they look cool

Good luck! Can't wait to see photos etc.!

That is the EXACT setup I have, with an Astroflight servo tester, that I was going to put into a bike. I have all of the parts (sprockets, pulleys, belts, chains) ready to be ordered, but I'm stuck with turning the 12mm motor shaft down to 8mm for the primary belt pulley.
