cant bring neu temps down.....

well today is the first time ive had any sort of problem with temps (down here in dallas texas), after about 15 mintues of practice my neu 1515 2.5d was at 170, mod1 mm only 121, i was only geared for 38 so i geared up 2 teeth to 45 mph and my motor temps after my next pack didnt change at all still at 170 after 18 mins, mm went up to 134, lipos never broke 105. so whats the deal guys, got any ideas? i have to drag in the driveline. gearmesh is good and no bad connections? should i gear up even more? i barely hitting top speed for a split second ont he straght and thats all.

Try gearing down 2 teeth instead and see what the esc and motor do then. 170 is quite high, but still well below 200- what are ambient temps like?

its hot as hell, 98+ and 80% humidity....im sure that has alot to do with it my normal temps are around 145 on the motor and 120-130 for the contoller. and if i gear down anymore ill be running wide open for over 60% of the track.....im sure that would raise temps

What vehicle? What voltage? If its a light vehicle you could try going up another tooth or 2. Cant realy hurt if the rest of the system is running that cool.

Sounds like you have been running the setup for a while.... any historical temps from the motor so we have a comparision point of how much they went up, or is this just how it has always been.

Check all of the connections to the motor. Make sure any connectors are tight and in good shape, make sure all of the solder joints are solid, make sure all of the wires are in good shape (from the esc to the motor especially). All it take is one questionable connection and it can cause havoc with motor temps. If all of this looks good you might pop the motor out and see if you can feel any play in the bearings. I had the front bearing of a neu start to go bad and my temps rose quite a bit very quickly, and the more I ran it the worse it got over time until I figured out what it was. If you can feel any side to side play at all in the motor shaft the bearing is suspect.

I think each Neu motor has it own comfy temp. I have used quite a few Neus and each tends to run at different temperature pretty consistently. I run a 1515 2.5d on 5s in my RC8 and it seems to like to stay around 160-170 no matter what I do after a 10-20 minute main. As long as you aren't getting up to 180-190 and crossing 200 degrees I wouldn't worry about it.

On the other hand, I have run a 1509 in my buggy and it was almost always around 160. I have also run a few 1512s. My 2.5d almost always ran around 140-150 until I smoked it one day (bad plug, motor came off track at 300 degrees with smoke pouring out of it). My 1512 1.5d rarely ever got above 140 degrees on 4s, but the batteries were another story. My 1512 3d seems to be running pretty cool.

Also what timing are you running on the esc? You should have it set to the lowest possible setting.

xray buggy, 5s, and i switched to 6.5 connectors over the 4mm i was running, and the motor is damn near new, only a couple weeks old... ill go over my connectors agian but i wasnt having any problems at my house running before we came down here to texas for this race.

timing is at the lowest, i did change one setting and that was my start power to high so it wouldnt cog if i was sliding into a corner backwards (bad habbit)

Like edumakated said. 170 isnt a problem. Your not going to do any damage at those temps so dont get too wound up in it. I pull my buggy off the track at 170 after a long hard rmain and dont even think about it.

If the track surface is significantly different than the one at home you could see some significant temp variation. A ton of traction can pull more amps or a very loose slippery track can tend to make the motor run a bit hotter due to the wheel spin letting the motor rev without a heavly load.

Interesting idea. did it help the backward roll cogging? I just run it set to low. Cant really see that making that big of a difference in temps though.

yes its doesnt stutter evening rolling backwards, our normal track is BIG and loose and fast and really tech, now out here is TIGHT but FAST very simple and bluegrooved i ruined a set or tires in an hour today, they are BLAD.....i think ive got to many factors changing here to single it out really. ill "soak" my 6.5 plugs just to make sure its not them. BUT they dont even get warm after running like my old 4mm plugs......

my temps for my 1515.2.5d/6s/MMM is about that with the ambient temps being in excess of 100degs....IMO its running normally
