Melted Ground

Tonight i was running my Erevo.I am running 2 Kershaw Design 700 HO,s with the Traxxas EVX2,Novak 2s Lipo cut off and 2 SPC 8000mah lipos.I have about a dozen runs and never had a problem.Today i ran it till i got the usual acceleration stutter warning me the voltage is getting to the warning zone.I have done this since it was installed and my cells are never lower than about 3.25 to 3.40 per cell.But when i stopped today all was fine then i turned the speed controller off and the ground wire was cooked.Any ideas.Its melted from the LVC to the ESC???Now im not sure what the problem was and if my LVC is anygood now..

I once had that happen with my MGM and fiego system. In my case, I think the switch shorted out the BEC - but it could also have been my wiring job.

My wiring was clean.I just dont get why it was fine running it and when i shut the esc off it melted.

Assuming that everthing was working fine, the only thing I can think of is if the main ground connection is not perfect (bad solder joint, loose connector, dirt connector, etc), the system will draw current through whatever ground it can. And since the LVC ground wire is small, it can't handle the current...

What would be considerd the main ground and where.Do u think Traxxas would cover it and if not whats a good replacement?

Main ground is the large black wire from the battery to the ESC...

Thats what i figured.The 2 main negatives from esc to batteries.I wonder if i can just solder in a new small set of esc wires that go to the esc and rx.The ground is the only one melted.

Well, I would also check the traces on the LVC PCB, chances are they got pretty warm too and might have melted as well. While you're at it, you might want to check out your connections (solder and the connectors themselves) to make sure everything is ok. Won't help much if you fix everything, but don't address the original problem that caused the whole thing...

1 of my esc grounds came loose on the battery connector.So i bet when i hit the off button i disturbed it and it smoke the insulation off the ground.LVC looks good.Do u think itll be good or should i replace it.Nothing is burnt in the little clear heatshrink or circuits.It was a quick second but enough to melt the ground!!!

Weird that it did it when you switched it OFF, but it is what it is. At this point, you really have nothing to lose by trying to fix it, unless you plan to warranty it (and good luck with that - LVCs don't pull enough current to smoke unless something is seriously wrong).

I know they wont cover it for free it has been well over 30 days.Wonder if thell fix it.What would be a good replacement.
