Savage X 4.6 brushless gearing question? - 01.24.2009, 06:16 AM

Hey guys.. I just finished getting all the parts together for my conversion. I'm taking a Savage X 4.6 w/ the XL 3 speed tranny and converting it over to electric power. I have two 2s 8000mah lipos and a castle mamba monster max with the 2200kv motor. I'm just wondering if anybody has any suggestions on gearing? Ideally I would like it to hit about 40mph, but not sure if that's safe to gear for that on only 4s. I was going to run 16/47 gearing, and will be doing mostly offroad bashing with the occasional speed runs. Anybody have any experience with this combo? Thanks a lot, really appreciate it!!

This should Help you out http://scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/_top_speed.html But I think 16/47 is a little to much.

Thanks for the reply hilucky. I also have a steel 52t spur from the Savage XL.. maybe I'll try that with the 16t pinion. It works out to about 35mph on the 3rd speed through that speed calculator. Might be a bit easier on the motor.

What wheels do you have? I come up with 40mph to 45mph with the stock X tires.

Savage 25 L.E. 3 Speed
RC18T- Sidewinder Micro 8000 3s

Running the stock X 4.6 tires, yeah. How did you get 45mph? :)

Ahh ok I see. So do you think that 16/52 gearing would be safe? I honestly have no idea how to gear this thing, I'm new to electrics :)

Its a little high for bashing but not bad. I would try it and check your temps every couple of minutes, And go for there

Ok, will do. Well thanks a lot for your help, really appreciate it. I just remembered I bought a 15t pinion as well, maybe I'll try 15/52.

Yeah that sounds good to me too... haha. Wow, this thing is going to be fast, I can't wait. Hopefully the 4.6 diffs and the 3 speed tranny hold up. I may have to go for the Flux diffs when they are available..

As long as you say with 4s power, They should hold up fine. Its when you go to 6s power that it all blows up
