Melted ground wire?

I have a Mamba Max and the other day when I was driving and smoke started coming out of my truck. I went to see what was wrong and the ground (brown) wire that goes to the receiver was melted. It had melted all the way up to the receiver was melted. I don't know what to do. I tried to call Castle, but they are closed on the weekends. Thanks.

PS: My setup is Mamba Max, Traxxas VXL, 2s lipo in a crt.5.

Hmmm...that's bizarre, to say the least. You say the wire was melted its entire length? Was it just the insulation? If it's like I think you're saying, then perhaps you somehow accidentally shorted out the BEC; maybe a servo died or something. The smoke could well have been the linear regulator going south.

Do you have any photos? It might be easier to see what you mean, but it sounds like somehow the BEC has shorted to me. It'll probably mean a trip to CC HQ though, I'm afraid.

Ok I think some of the smoke came from the insulation melting and the rest came from the servo extinction plug melting. All of the servos were working fine after it happened. I don't know how it could have been the bec though it was disabled. I am going to get a pic.

I had the same thing happen to me when I was running an external BEC. I never figured out what I did though, but I did it twice. The insulation melted off and the ground wire became brittle. Both MM's still work though, but I havent tried an external BEC since.

a [minor] possible scenario is that the external bec losed contact on it`s own ground wire. that would mean that the current flowing through the bec circuit circled through the mm bec`s ground and the ubec`s positive. what caused that much current, is unknown to me; maybe a stalled servo...
in this scenario however, the ubec`s red output lead should be stressed as well [unless it`s thicker wire]...
