I was on my way home from spudding with a friend and someone was throwing out a ton of crap. I saw two electrical items. I told my friend to turn around and I pulled in the relics. One is a casette player and the other one is an old heavy 600w amp.

I opened up the casette player and beleive it or not I found two 2200uf 25v caps!!

I'm going to solder them to my mamba max... I've been meaning to get some caps for that thing forever now.

I haven't done anything with the amp yet but I will try to see if it works. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow, my camera is out of juice from spudding and charges overnight.

edit - Caps in parralel right, or is one 2200uf cap enough?

Be careful, they have to be low-ESR caps if you want to use them for an ESC. If it doesn't say low-ESR, look for a temperature rating 105*C or higher.

Also, caps get "worn" with age, and may tend to puff or pop if pushed. Usually not bad in itself, but it stinks and there is smoke (usually no fire though).

Are they low esr? This is usually indicated by the temperature rating. 105C

I would think one should be plenty for a MM. They do seem to help. I always add caps too.

They dry out best thrown away - they are only a few $;s from digikey

I've pulled off over 60 caps I sure hope they aren't "dry"... I also pulled off 6 motors and a nice headphone plug.

These caps don't say low esr on them. The say rubycon, 2200uf 25v, CE W, 1M9402, 85*C. I'll google them. Do they sound good to anyone?

I found some not so good info on another forum - "An 85C cap is not a low ESR cap. Needs to be 105C, low ESR."

Do you think it's worth trying? Any chance of the cap shorting out my battery and esc if it frys?

Hey! Another theory. Since they aren't low esc caps, could I run them in a parralel to make them less likely to pop?

I got some news on the amp. It's a hobby amp. It has two massive 75v 10,000uf caps in it along with two very heavy heatsinks and a heavy thing in the middle. The outputs have been modified to allow a different plug to fit. I might see if I could get this used in the new weightroom my highschool is getting because the old stereo is crap..

I have a question about the amp. It has two mono TRS aka headphone jacks for the output. Which part of the mono TRS plug is the positive and negative? I have a couple from a guitar cord and I could connect wires to those with wire nuts...

Just figured it's a TS connector. Is the long sleeve the negative and the tip the positive? Does it matter?

speaker output doesn't really matter, just make left and right the same configuration.

Not identical, but it seems the tip is red, and the sleeve black- I would do some more digging though, its strangley hard to find a good diagram.

On the cap front, wiring in parallel will increase the capacitence (bigger poop inducing spark), but will do nothing to make them less flakey- they have higher internal resistance so trying to charge & discharge them more often/ rapidly will only hurt them, such as in an R/C....

So now I fabbed up some connectors. I'll use wire nuts to attach the speakers to them.

New problem is. I have an old unused dvd player. I want to be able to hook that up to the amp without having anything else to play CDs. All I would need is a volume control. Is there a way I can mod the dvd player and add a volume control?

I would have said (with all my vast electrical knowledge...) that the volume control should go onto the amp, somewhere inline between the I/O sockets where-ever they join upto on the circuit... yeah...
