ESC for CC5700k/v? - 06.18.2009, 02:09 PM

I may have to get a new ESC to pair with my CC 5700 motor. I'd like to run a 3s lipo if possible. I would put this in my Pede or my Rustler. Not sure. The Mamba Max seems like the best CC option, but what about a MUCH cheaper EZRun ESC? Certainly it will pair up to the 5700 motor and run just fine right?

I know about the USA vs China debate, customer service, etc... I don't want a debate about that. I understand the value that CC has to offer. The question is, do I want to spend the extra money or not. Maybe I will, or maybe I won't. I just want to know if the EZRuns will work w/ the CC motors, and if I should get a a 35A, 80A, or 150A.

Thanks!

I also would opt for the MM. Great ESC with o so many options to tune.

I'm sorry to be so DUMB, but I don't understand this whole BEC thing. I don't use one with my VXL Pede, nor my SW+4600. I may have read something about the BEC mod thing to allow you to run 4S is that what you mean? Good lord... 4S on a 5700 Rusty? That would be something else!

The BEC on a MM/VXL will still get warm with 3s - its ok but I prefer to use a bec to keep temps down.

Bigger the servo more amps and hence hotter bec... MM Pro would be the best thing but not out yet.

Considering the experience of other uses I would give the hw80 a try with that motor on 3s. Seems to be a solid esc, although I have no experience with them. Plus it has a switching bec so you can run up to 4s without having to use and external bec. The MM does run cooler on 3s with an external bec. Since it has a linear bec any voltage over 6v has to be bled off as heat, so 12+v out of a 3s lipo has to be cut in half, fair amount of heat there.

Well, doesn't the HW come with a fan? That could help I suppose. I don't mind getting the MM, only because you can find them new on Ebay for $117 plus shipping. The EZRun 80A ESC w/ Fan runs $70 shipped from China.

Now, the EZRun 80A is the same thing as the HW80? or different? Oh, I'm thinking of the Hobby KING ESC.

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...00A_w/_ReverseOh, well that being said... that HobbyKing will run up to 4S and is even cheaper yet at $59.99.

Thing is... I've got nothing to lose really. I'm not racing.. and my ERBE is so fast and awesome that nothing can compare anyway. I'm just looking for something to throw in my Rustler so I can use this 5700 motor.

Not too sure, but I guess for the price you could give it a try. I would get the hw80 from Mike at the rcm store, 75 bucks and his shipping will be 10X faster and cheaper than getting it from HC. That is the main issue with HC, you need to use ems shipping to get stuff in less than 10 days, and that is usually 20 bucks... Mike uses priority mail and gets me stuff in 2 days... So 80-82 bucks from him, or 80 bucks from HC... Plus it is always nice to buy from mike, cause he does set us up with this sweet forum to act like idiots on...

The reason for the external BEC is because the Mamba max uses a Linear BEC- TH bec's job is to take main battery voltage (~11.1) to 6.0v for the reciever. A linear bec does this using resistance- in the process all the excess energy turns to heat. by using an external switching BEC, the intenal BEC does not have to work nearly has hard, hence less heat.

Switching BEC work like turning a light switch on-and off really fast to lower voltage- much less heat is created.

Hope this helped.

I'd go with a Mamba max and external BEC like the CC BEC
