Help putting together an FLM Rustler / MMM? - 07.13.2009, 08:30 PM

I am looking for a new project/build, and I can’t seem to get the 1/8 truggy roller I want for the right price (!), so I was thinking about building an FLM Rustler from scratch… and I have a couple of questions:
  1. If I am buying every FLM Rustler part, is it still worth getting a Rustler donor vehicle, or just buy the remaining parts? I don’t need radio or servo, but I haven’t got a good sense of how many other parts I would need to pick up. (I don’t have a Rustler to compare with)
  2. Am I right in understanding that the FLM parts will make the truck too heavy for the VXL 3500 combo that is normally in the Rustler?
  3. If so, what would people suggest? How about the MMM 2650 combo on 4s? Would that even fit?
  4. Any pros and cons of the extended chassis and/or extended A-arms?
  5. Is this the full set of parts (and no duplication)?:
  • - Aluminum/steel differential for the electric stampede
  • - Electric Rustler steering draglink
  • - Hardened steel Stampede/Rustler idler gear
  • - Fastlane Racing Caster Blocks
  • - Electric Rustler Steering Bell Crank Aluminum
  • - Fastlane Rustler Super Extended Chassis Kit with Extended Length Arms
  • - CNC stampede/rustler transmission case
  • - E Rustler/Stampede Ext Arm CVD
  • - Electric Rustler Upper Chassis
