Thinking of building a bl Revo - 02.25.2006, 09:27 AM

What will I need? Is the Gorilla Max intended for this? If I bought the Gorilla max rolling chassis, could I then put Revo wheels, tires, and body on? Is it a direct fit? Iknow I need the BL motor and esc, radio, servo, ect. I'm thinking of going with dual Thunder Power TP8000 2S LI-PO packs.

What motor/esc would be recommended for this on 4s LI-PO?

Yeah, it's a 1:1 fit, with 4S lipo, you can take a 9920 or a mgm 16016 and a lehner 1940 or a wanderer XL can. (7 or 8 turns) (depends how deep your pockets are, and how much you want to invest)

A wanderer 8XL would give immense run times on this set up (45minutes+), and a 7XL would be a tad quicker, but with shorter run times.

A stock revo body wont fit. The Gorilla conversion has a bit of an extension, app. 1 inch.

Thanks for the replies.

What bodies will fit or, is it easy to make a Revo body fit?

45 minutes is even more than I need. Maybe I could go with TP6000s and save some money. I only need to make 20 minute mains. The 6000s can deliver 72 amps continuous. Is this enough current for a 7 or 8 XL?

For racing you might not get 45minutes out of the 8000's, would probably be closer to 30minutes. Have you considered going with 6s lipo? This way you could run a higher turn motor (10XL), and a 10XL will draw less current than a 7/8XL - hence more runtime, and you can then get 4000-6000mah packs and still make the 20minute mains. This will also put less of a strain on the ESC, motor and also batts - 72amps is fine for a 10XL, but would be pushing it on a 7/8XL.

72amps cont. is plenty for even a 6XL. ~55amps continuous might be good to shoot for with a 7XL. 5s Lipo and lower gearing might be a better option - it would be more efficient.

I think a 5s would be a little better as well. It has a more power to your disposal. You can get a lower kv motor for less amp draw and run the same speed.

Right! That amp rating on the motors is not relevant to anything really.

I never said to match up. I just think a 5s or 6s system would be better than a 4s system. Has the higher voltage so you can get a higher efficency out of it. 6s on a 10xl wit ha 4ooo lipo would go 20 min main with great power.

So a 7 or 8xl would be a good choice for 4s and 10xl for 6s? How would a 7xl/4s compare to a nitro Revo, performance wise?

I'm going to have to ask around and make sure these guys would let me race with them before I start this project. It's a bit too much money for a bashing "toy". I want to be able to race it and make the longest mains, which at my tracks are only 20 min.

I would prefer to stay with the ThunderPower packs because I get a good deal on them and I've had excellent performance from these in a stadium truck class I race. I just trust them and KNOW that they'll give great performance. Maybe two 3S 6000 packs wired in series for 22.2V would work nicely. It would be pushing the 9920 very clos eto its' voltage limit though.

I don't know, I think I may stay 4S to save money. It's going to be pretty expensive for me as it is.

I'm still just kicking the idea around but I'm leaning towards going ahead and doing it, provided I can race it.

Thanks for the help guys.

Okay on kicking the idea. I thought the thunder packs had the 4000 mah. You can get the 2 x 3s 4000 for a 6s combo. the lower mah helps drop the price some to. Just to help kick the idea some.

Thanks Coolhandcountry

I'd just be a little concerned about the 4000 making runtime. 4000 mah in a 20 minute main, It'd have to draw only 200mah per minute. If my calcualtions are right that would only be pulling 266 watts at a 12 amp average draw! Seems low for such a big truck moving at high speed.

That's not including a warm up lap or two that I'd like to be able to make and the fact that I'd need to make 20 and change. Hmmmm Decisions:002:

Maybe I should just look at the Maxamps 6000mah 3S packs. They're only $119.99.
