MMP disabling the BEC - 02.23.2010, 06:20 PM

I want to run an external BEC with my MMP and I just want to verify that I can disable the onboard BEC by removing the middle wire same as the MM? I am running a JR Z9100s servo which can pull a lot of volts and I hear it can put a strain on the onboard BEC causing momentary shutdowns.

That's exactly right, just pull out the middle red wire and you're good to go.

I would personally recommend using a 3 inch servo extension with the red wire disabled on the extension. Just disable the red wire on the extension and run it inline between the speed controller and receiver. This effectively disables the BEC, but when you want to use the Castle Link, you don't need to worry about putting the red wire back in or using a battery to connect to the link; just pull the speed controller off the extension, hook it to the link and make your changes, then just plug it back into the extension.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have questions about the extension setup.

Thomas, thanks for the quick response and tips about disabling the BEC. I have been doing this on my Mamba Max esc's but I wanted to be sure the procedure was the same before I did the same to my MMP, those buggers are hard to come by right now.
