PLEASE READ.ESCThrottle calibrating problem(savage conversion) -
03.03.2010, 04:52 AM
I have finsihed putting my briushless savage conversion together.I am running a mamba 2200kv with a hobbywing 150a esc(the ones from hobbyking).
Anyway when setting the calibration for throttle the intruction manual says to put the throttle on the remote in REV(reverse so the functions are backwards).Anyway i set it per the manual. Now when i accelerate i am only getting 50% power and reverse is getting 100%.So a simple answer is to put REV back to normal.Once i do that the motor sceams at full throttle so i have to quickly put it back to REV.
So then i decide to re-calibrate it accept without putting it in REV.Once i am done i am now getting 100% for throttle EXCEPT to go forward(accelerate),i have to push reverse on the radio.
Side Note: Weirdly enough when i claibrate in REV the manual says to press accelerate to full on the remote and a red light will flash. This does not happen with me,i have to push reverse on the radio for the light to flash when calibrating. When i calibrate without putting the remote in REV,i can push throttle and the red liught will flash.
Anyway some help would be appreciated, sorry for the long post just needed to explain well.I will add pics .

What tx are you using? The REV instructions only apply to Futaba radios. Just calibrate your in normal position and swap any of the two wires so the green light comes on when you accelerate and the red light illuminates when your going reverse.

Do it the way you first did it, then switch two of the motor wires.

Calibrate again without the reverse set on the tx, then swap the outer two motor wires around to the esc. That should do the trick.

Ditto. Even then I find myself pumping the brakes rather than just slamming them on- controlled slow down before impacting fences etc...

Ok i thought everything was good was about to shoot a video,on my second run.Though i have just realised that when i press reverse on the radio it has alot more power/speed then forward.Reverse on the esc is automatically set to 50% power, and i am obviously getting 50%power when going forward, and 100% power in reverse. So something is back to front.I have re calibrated it about 10 times, putting the radio in and out of REV,changing around the two motor wires etc.
I thought i would change the motor direction with the program card though the card does not work either.I had followed the prgoram card instuctions. So please help me out,im stuck,it would be greatly appreciated.
P.S Maybe i should turn the diffs areound?

I have just came accross another problem. One of the cell in the 5s pack is now dead. All after one run, well no point returning it to hobbyking ,it will take weeks before i get a new one.Apart from that i have took it apart to make it a 4s pack, though it has a really weird configuration and i dont think that is possible for the first timer. If anyone wants to buy it off me let me know.5000mah 20c ,4 cells are perfectly fine, only one run in them.

Start from scratch:
1) tx settings all to normal, nothing reversed.
2) same with the esc settings, nothing reversed on the motor direction settings.
3) set the throttle for 50% reverse power, 100% forwards- the truck should stop when you hit the brakes, not go into reverse after slowing down or stopping ( have to release the throttle trigger to neutral before engaging reverse).
4) test it- if there are no brakes when you go forwards to reverse, the you have the throttle channel setting wrong, and it needs to be reversed on the tx. You will need to recalibrate the esc to the tx after you reverse the throttle.
If the truck runs backwards, but the brakes work fine when going from reverse to forwards ( will slow down to a stop, then go forwards after releasing the throttle to neutral first ), then you just need to switch 2 motor wires around and it should work fine from that point.
I would still contact hobbyking about the lipo and explain that one cell has died after one run- they do have customer support so even if it takes weeks I wouldnt just write-off the pack. It can be reconfigured, but that does require a skilled hand to do it carefully.
