help with cogging - 05.09.2006, 07:45 AM

I need some help and I am dying to get the E-Maxx running! 12020, 8XL, UBEC, 12 cell IB 3800, deans connectors, stock receiver.

Being new to this, I am assuming what's going on is cogging. When i give it throttle, it will hesitate/stutter and then take off.

Thus far I have:
1 - upgraded to IB 3800 from el cheap O's
2 - moved the reciever to the back
3 - UBEC in front, to the back
4 - unplugged the UBEC (kept wired to battery) and plugged in a reciever pack

What else can i do??

Thank you!

What gearing do you have? If you got it geared to hi it will have some cogging to. Also with gearing tires and the kind of diffs and are you running a trans or center diff or slipper?

Peace!

Some cogging is normal, with sensorless the controller can't sense the rotors position until it's spinning,if it's just on take off then it's ok,it shouldn't do it once the truck is rolling though. It's less noticeable the lower the gearing,if you ran more cells and lowered the gearing to hit the same speeds it's running at now then it will be less noticeable.Goes with the teritory with sensorless, think of it kind of like turbo lag,a PITA but worth it.

the pinion is a 18 (maybe a 20) on the OFNA 51T strobe slipper - this is what Mike suggested. Stock diffs/Trans, MIP CVDs. There is less cogging in low gear.

I have'nt put it in the dirt yet, I am hoping it doesn't effect the climbing at low speeds.

I have read opinions on how the UBEC should be mounted ( ex. flat side facing electronics), is there a preference?

What are the max cells for a 12020/8xl?

You guys are awesome!

Well you could try a lower pinion gear to see. I had a problem simaliar to yours but it seemed to help with a lower pinion. I not sure from the explaining though if it would be the same problem. a 14 51 put you at stock gearing with the motor has more kv than stock titans so the truck will be faster. I not sure how big of tire you running either. I not sure how much top speed you want to.

Stock Tires - I don't know the sizes. I will try a 14 tooth with the next order. I appreciate the input!
