Baja BL - Check it out! - 02.24.2012, 12:30 PM

Now guys, I'm new to the big side of RC, so dont hate on my lack of knowledge of baja parts and hop ups... I'm not 100% sure about whats on here/has been done to it by the previous owner so it will be a bit of a game... spot what i've missed!

as it arrived, looks spotless and hardly run!

Body off and we begin to see whats hiding underneath...

"oooh is that one of those fire boxes noobs kill on youtube?" yes my friends... yes it is... but this one wont be going to the big esc graveyard in the sky... I'm fairly confident i know what i'm doing and we wont be seeing smoke and flames from this ;) (watch this space!)

Got the cage off for a closer look (not an easy task for a non baja user! took me a while to find the little clip on the back of the roof plate! )

Front end shot, Anyone have some lower RPM arms kicking around? the previous owner has returned them to RPM as they broke on another baja he has... so i have none :(

Quick shot of the underneath, nice braces bro... and a sweet looking chassis :D

now for the parts list (things i know about anyway)

Full Castle Creations Conversion
Roll-cage Mod
Extended Axles front & Rear
IRC Chassis Brace
IRC Xhock Braces
Mini MX Rear Tyres
Windows
RPM Bumper
RPM Arms
Silverback Beadlocks
5755 Steering Servo
9mm Dogbones with replacable pins
Killer RC Shock Limiting Cables
Killer RC Rear Top Turnbuckles and spacers
Darksoul red seals in 6mm shocks

and thats all i can see/know off...

so what do you guys think?

Currently running a pair of these: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dproduct=16225 for 6s tameness :(

but after my bonus next month i plan on buying a pair of these: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...4S1P_30C_.html for 6s, 7s and 8s insanity... and at least an hours run time total :)

Thanks for looking guys, please post up any parts i obviously missed and stick up some opinions / suggestions :)

cheers guys,

been buying bits for it this week :P

RPM Rear Bumper and Skid Plate
Turtle Racing Front Chassis Plate in black
drivecup TOOBZ and Boots
Hostile 56t Spur gear as the one that was on it when it arrived had a large chunk missing.

I'm feeling a Black Silver and Dark Green theme

Something a bit different, and should complement the Castle motor and speed controller colors nicely

also, Castle CapPack arrived and is installed :D

Potted it with silicone, that'll be ok right?

Got the resistors i require for a "no spark" connection coming in the next few days so i'll be all ready when my 8s arrive :D

EPIC bmx track bash today guys!!

last one didnt come out as well as i hoped :P planned to have the little truck jumping over but it didnt have enough power :(

I do have some video, just waiting for my friends at WLB to get it edited and uploaded :)

8s = INSANE

18t on 8s is a big no no... 14t was fine, could probably do with a 16t to find the sweet spot :)

Broke a rear rpm upper arm after attempting to clear both the doubles you see in the background of the first picture in one go :P so near and yet so far...

had some requests on other forums to know the weight so here goes:

Thats fully loaded (equivalent of having a full tank of petrol)

What does a "normal" hopped up baja weigh?

some action shots from the BMX bash:

That looks like some serious fun ! A bmx track would be so nice especially for large scale. Looks like you might kill one of your buddies sooner or later, but hey there is always a price to pay

BMX tracks are great in the dry, i wouldnt run there in the wet as it would ruin the surface for everyone :P

Pictures from today:

First jump broke BOTH front arms, 6 cable ties and i was bashing till the end of the day ;)

Also broke the steering wiper set... the servo saver did nothing :P i guess its set too tight... any looser and the steering doesn't move, is their a stiffer spring available?

"no-spark" connection and capacitor bank:

and some posing shots ;)

Bashing buddies ;)

A little look inside:

There is video from today and the bmx track... but its on the cutting room floor at the moment, so be patient ;)

its buckets of fun mate :)

Still... after bashing with my mates, wishing i still had a 1/8 buggy to do the big stuff with... this seems a little... heavier than the small stuff i'm used to ;)

The baja really is a money pit ;)

I'm in the process of swapping out all the orange for black and grey... got all the hinge pin braces and shocks, just need the beadlocks, nuts and wing pins... then i can begin my Black Grey and Green Castle theme paint/sticker job ;)

on a side note, anyone know what font castle use for their "CASTLE" writing? I want to get some stickers vinyl cut for it and i want as close to the font as possible
