Braking force vs Amp rating - 07.15.2014, 01:04 AM

The idea is simple. Matching the esc to the amp rating of the esc as close as possible so the adjustments in brake force and punch control are as small as possible. IE, going from 30% to 40% results in the smallest change possible.

Does the amp rating of an esc have anything to do with the esc's total brake force? Is 100% brake force the maximum the esc is capable of or is it limited somewhat already before we even start tuning in Castle link?

Sorry, I don't get your point.
Do you have problems with not enough brake force?

Sorry, typed on an iPhone and didn't realize how jumbled that was. I edited my previous post a little bit and quoted it above. Basically I was having a conversation about 1/8 buggies and the person wants to fine tune for racing. He wants the settings in the esc to be fine, IE, going from 30% to 40% makes a small change and doesn't go too far. So he was thinking that an esc with a lower amp rating (MMP) would make smaller adjustments than an esc with a higher amp rating (MMM) since he thinks it will have less total brake force. He's hoping for the same to be true with Punch Control. Patrick and castle has given some great insight in the past to the inner workings and theories of brushless and I was hoping for more of that.

The ESC amp rating is not directly related to braking force - pretty much any good car ESC has stronger brakes than needed(I generally put brakes at 50% to start and then adjust on my radio for fine tuning). :-)

I do the same as Mike.

When a serious 1/8 buggy racer starts talking about fine tuning the brakes he has to keep in mind that an electric motor brace on a center diff will never have the same characteristic as a nito brake. F/R bias is only possible on disc breaks (ignoring the pseudo-adjustability you get from the diff fluids), and that's what's making the biggest difference in offroad brake tuning IMO.
